Unhappy Quietist LEGAL Hi-perf. Muffler for New York State

Well, it has finally happened. Even though I have a full catalytic converter in addition to muffler and resonator, and the car -- while louder than stock -- is not obnoxiously loud, I was pulled over for having an "amplified exhaust". The officer was nice and told me there would be no fine if I had the muffler replaced in a few days and brought proof to the DMV or court.

So I'd like to know, which high performance muffler should I get that meets the sound requirements of New York State? My exhaust is a 2.5" MBRP and I'd hate to stick on a reducer for a stock muffler.

Thanks.

Thanks I'll check out the flowmaster. What about the CherryBomb mufflers you can buy at autozone (not the glass pack, the acoustic mufflers)?

Yeah, If I didn't own a house here and my parents didn't live here, I'd be OUTTA here. This is just the tip of the iceberg of what sucks in this fiscally-insolvent, high-tax do-gooder craphole. My car is not 1/2 as loud as your average motorcycle. Your Borla is IMO ticketable if it is louder than stock. That is the law: if your focus is louder than stock focus, your F-150 louder than stock F-150, your Pontiac CrapFire is louder than stock Pontiac CrapFire, it can be ticketed. From what I can tell, the law does not set a hard decibel level for exhausts, like California (can't be louder than 90 dB). That is what is so ff'in lame. A guy can be driving his Harley EarBreaker2000 but if the exhaust is stock, it is fine. See below....

I have a friend who lives in Austin and when I visited I really liked Texas.

Kenmore Cop. I've driven this exhaust in front of other cops for literally miles -- cop tailing me, no ticket. One of my friends who was a buff cop told me today that Kenmore cops have actually given tickets to other cops and don't care.

The stock muffler is expensive and I don't have one. (Wazzer - do you still have your stock muffler? )

Does anyone know the decibel level of the oem muffler? The FocalJet shootout didn't say. Is the FlowMaster quieter than stock?

Sure do, but it's still on the car... If it wasn't, it'd be yours, rest assured! Well, I do have the lunchbox, in a cardboard box, out in the shed. I don't suppose that would do you any good, though....
