Since you seem to know a lot about these, what would be a good model to get? I'm cruising the 'list right now and I see they came in all sorts of engine sizes and prices.

My main criteria for scooter selection are: #1 how often do you intend to ride, #2 what is the speed limit of the roads you will ride, and #3 how far will your rides be?

#1 if you ride a lot, you want to aim more toward reliability and less toward fun-factor.
#2 a 50cc is good up to 40mph, a 80cc good for up to 50mph, a 150cc can do 55mph+ all day long, 250cc and up are for the freeway or long-hauls. . ...
#3 research how much gas a scooter you like will hold, and its MPG rating as they wildly vary.

If you have a non-freeway commute and your state allows lane-splitting, there's no reason you shouldn't :) I seriously get to work with a grin whenever I ride. It also saves HELLA miles on my car---I rode my first skelly for over 30,000 miles before I sold it.

If and when I can convince the wife to ride, I'd love to get her one of those or a Honda Met :)

The only state that allows lane splitting is California
