Then this explains the DCT, a truly multinational POS:

Fiat is recalling their DCT on the 500L as of a few weeks ago. Honda also recalled some DCT equipped models in Japan.

Ford, no recall just keep saying "it's normal" and "the way it is".

I feel your frustration! Good luck!
I really like the Focus HB (hatchback 5 doors) but, in MX all the HB comes with the DCT, so I had to buy the Sedan body with the 5spd MT (the only option I have)

Regarding your post above showing the plant in`Modugno / Bari Italy, here is a press clip when Ford/Getrag began production of the 6DCT250.

At the Getrag plants Modugno / Bari und Irapuato, the serial production of the youngest member of the Getrag Powershift family has commenced. The 6DCT250 transmission will first be introduced in the Renault Megane and the Renault Scenic and for the NAFTA market in the Ford Fiesta. For 2010, quantities of over 100,000 transmissions are planned already, which will increase to over 400,000 annually by the end of 2011. The 6DCT250 was developed for integration in small and medium sized cars.
"Modugno plays a key role regarding manufacturing of highly modern transmission technology" says Bernd Eckl, COO of the Getrag Group. The Modugno plant is responsible for the complete manufacturing of the gear sets for Europe and the assembly plant in Mexico and additionally assembles transmissions for the European market.
Somehow it would be logical that they would produce closer to their end use market, but the 2.0 L GDI engine is currently only built in one plant, yet is used in pretty much every other global market besides Europe, and even the european assembled 2.0 L GDI equipped vehicles used the Mexican transaxle, so there goes that bit of logic.

For some reason I cannot see the first page photos. One of the cool things about this is I can order E-spec parts from Juarez for the MKIII and the MKI now.

It's still cheaper to order European Spec parts from Europe and skip going through Mexico, especially for things like the low profile rear head restraints.

$450 each in Mexico for cloth, v.s. less than that for a pair of the full leather ST specification ones shipped from the UK.
