Anyone had problems with led third brake lights?

I put an led third brake light in my zx3 and it is acting as if the system is shorted out. the side lights light up and stay lit. as soon as I plug the factory light back in all is well. the third light works but it trips the two side tail lights. do I need a resistor?

I returned the one I got from ebay. Check the two pins in the connector on the light, they have a tenancy to push out when you try to plug them in.

Seen a lot of reports of problems using LED center brake lights, resistor to make it work like a regular light bulb was a reported "fix".

Search around here & in the MkI area for what works, can't remember the details.

did you get a new one that worked? I do 12/24 v electrical for living right now. I disassembled the light and tried reversing the wires and everything. it clearly doesn't like the led board. I took the board out and connected it directly.

Check out this thread, last page mentions the resistor fix.

You could have a poor ground, and the other lights ground thru the LED light due to it's lower resistance for another possibility.

Messin' with the LED setup itself will likely make it worse..

Lots of maybe's I'm afraid.

Various electric systems handle LEDs differently. Have you ever seen a truck with a fast blinking LED signal light, for instance? The electrical system doesn't know the LED light is there, it think a standard lamp is burned out.

so I got my light all straightened out tonight. I picked up an 8ohm 20 amp resistor from radio shack, I wired it between the red and black on the light and it worked perfect and it looks sweet! thanks for all the input.
