Well, I for one am relieved to hear it has nothing to do with the DCT or poor CR reliability ratings. And of course, a new grille and center stack will fix things right up. If a real auto source like "The Motley Fool" says so, it must be.

Ford slacked when the initial DCT problems reared its ugly head. Some folks here had (or still have) issues with their DCTs. Relatively speaking it was not a majority of folks. However, by not addressing the issue head on and allowing the problem to fester across the internet, there is a perception out there that the Focus has serious transmission problems.

In the last few years, Toyota has had a series of safety issues with their cars. The difference with them is that they JUMP the minute a problem with their cars leak out. The perception is not the same with Ford.

Its a shame because bang for the buck, the Focus is one of the best compact cars out there. I think only the Mazda 3 is better. A lot of folks may complain about the DCT here, but rarely do we hear folks ditch the Focus for a Civic, Corolla, Sentra, or Elantra. If anything, most folks leave the Focus for a HIGER grade car, (Accord, F150, Escape, Mustang, etc).

I am reaching 30 months with my SE Sport and its still a blast to drive.

I don't know, but here in Mx Focus sells are dropping like flies, and it's all related to the DCT. Ford is trying to fight this, Ford is not selling the American focus anymore, now all the 2014 Focus are imported directly from Europe.... Time will tell.

When I say a step up, I only mean in class (i.e. from compact car to midsize sedan, truck, SUV, CUV). I agree with you though, bang for the buck, the Focus is a great car.

My understanding is that the European models have more transmission options (dual wet clutch, for example) and have different engine options (1.6 liter, 1.0 liter, diesel).
