Painting OEM wheels: good or bad idea?

Hello,
So I have been helping a lot of people here with audio systems and HID installation on MK3 focus... but now I hve to say that I need help for something I don't know much about...
I drive a white SE focus 2012, and I recently bought new wheels for my car, cause I got sick of my steel wheels.
I bought some 18'' OEM focus ST wheels for my car, cause I had many bad experience with aftermarket wheels... thinking oem will be more "solid".

My question is: painting or no painting..
The way i'm modifying my car (white and black aspect) makes me think I should paint my wheels gunmetal or black to make my car look better, but when I was decided to start painting them, a guy at my local performance part shop told me NOT to do it.
He told me that my wheels where in perfect condition, and that the paint that is actually on is a powder coat, baked at high temperature, way more solid than anything I could do myself.
So here I am, having this question every day of my life, paint/no paint.

I want opinions or experiences with wheel painting (clear coats also), or what you think will look better (silver oem or gunmetal?)

Thank you guyz !

Personally if it were me, I would send them out to be powder coated.

I've been thinking about plastidip until I find a colour I like. Neat stuff from what I've read/seen.

They have custom colors and you can mix to make your own color as well. It will look great if applied well

I think the OEM finish will look miles better unless it's professionally done. I had my wheel plastidipped, but they never looked as good until I went back with the silver. Keep them clean and they'll make your car look clean. :)

I had the stock 16" rims on my Focus powdercoated a slight glossy black. They look really good. I'd do it again.

yes it is, I was afraid it wouldn't even last a season because wheels gets most of rock chips...

Thank you :) if i'm doing any color modification, I might just go plastidip... at least it isn't permanent, so goin back to stock color will be possible
