The upgraded intercooler rejects more heat from the air that is going into the intake, this allows you to make power for longer before it gets heat soaked and you start to lose power.

You posted in the 2012+ Ford Focus (MK3) General Chat forum, however it belonged here in the ST EcoBoost performance forum as you were asking a performance related question about your Focus ST with it's 2.0 L EcoBoost engine, one that's not shared with any other Focus.

It keeps your charge temps cooler which means denser air, which means more oxygen, which means more power.

This mod does have a potential to give more consistent power on the stock tune since it prevents heatsoak. When the stock ECU sees high IATs it will limit power further. Keeping charge temps cooler will give you more consistent power pull after pull. You really need a tune though as JUST a tune will give you more power than a stock car with every bolt on you can think of.

There's a few DIY threads running around on the FMIC. Here's a good one:

Strictly speaking you're running the stock tune if the car has not been programmed with an Cobb Accessport or SCT Xcal tuning device, or even the forthcoming Ford Pro-Cal tool.

There are canned off the shelf tunes coming from FSwerks, Cobb, etc, but there are also the pro tunes or electronically updated tunes from FSwerks and other protuners specific to your vehicle, but you need to do the research yourself on that as my car isn't tuned yet if ever.

It depends on if you're just replacing the tube from the air box to the turbo or trying to replace the intake with a CAI kit other than the ford racing one?

The Steeda CAI replaces the stock box but also removes one of the factory cold air feeds from the grille, the FSwerks is too open personally, for me the best option was the Ford racing kit which comes with a K&N filter.

Or soon

http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts...KeyField=22952

The Ford Racing CAI/ intake snorkel keeps the factory airbox and replaces the filter and the snorkel with a higher flow filter and a duct that's brought right up to the grille opening to push in cooler air from outside the engine compartment in the high pressure zone at the front of the car.
