Canadian buying American?

I'm in Canada (Yukon), and I've been looking to buy a 2014 Focus Titanium 5dr. I've been playing around on the sites (both .ca and .com) and the price difference is massive $31,400can vs. $26,000. We only have the one Ford dealer here in my little town.

Would it be worth it to fly to the US and buy it there? What kind of road blocks might I encounter? What type of paper work might I have to do as well?

If this is an absolutely horrible idea, what ideas/tactics would you guys/gals recommend to get the best deal/discounts on my future Ford?

I can guarantee a boatload of taxes awaiting you. Probably the same amount 'more' that you pay in Canada. VAT alone is 7.2%
Then all sorts of paperwork nightmares.. Maybe they will confiscate the car..

I know in America no imports are allowed unless the have USA emmisions stuff. And bringing one in is a huge headache..And the US DOES seize cars. i have no idea if Canada has any special rules for cars in Canada

You should try to find a specialty car place. One which may import individual cars into Canada. They would know the ropes.

I THINK
you would have to have a Canadian safety inspection and if it doesn't have things like daytime running lights you would need to have them installed

You would surely have to pay some taxes

Exchange rate on the dollar is going to cost you as well

to sum things up, it would be more of a pita than its worth to save a little $$$. Or it actually might cost you more in the end.

Alright, thank you for the reading material! I guess you guys are right, it would most likely cost me more, and have the risk of missing something that Canadian law requires, or having my car seized.

Thanks guys!
