UDP Problems on Long Trips

Throwing the question out to ask if anyone has had any problems with their cars running a UDP (I don't care which kind but curious about the FC 2piece water/crank pulley and/or the AFX 1 piece UDP setup) when going on a long road trip (like 8-10 hours on the road).

I'm curious as to any problems with the car overheating on a long summer holiday road trip. I know EuroZX3 mentioned having his car overheat on hot summer days when he was running a 2 piece UDP (FC). Curious....

Basically I have a FC 2 piece UDP but thinking about selling it or trading it for a AFX 1 piece with the belt included (plus cash if need be). Assuming that a overheating issue is being caused by the water pulley on the UDP set but not sure. Not overally knowledgeful in that category.

Thanks in advance.

I have the Focus Central 2-piece pulley set and have gone on a 3 hour trip doing about 80mph the whole way, it was about 90+ degrees, and had no problems with overheating. To this day I haven't had any problems. I've had them on for almost a year now.

I have FC 2 piece UDP and I have drove form North Carolina (where i live) to St. Louis MO. a twelve hour drive through the mopuntains and some very steep hills with a car load and no problems. I't was also during christmas, but have drove it to atlanta 5 hrs during summer and notta. I think the water pump could be going out, I replaced mine 2 yrs ago right after warranty went out and never had a overheating problem yet.

the only problem I have and still have is I feel vibrations in my engine constantly. any suggestions?

I have an UDP single Esslinger and I drive Monday out of state ussually 300 miles then I drive around town searching for nieghborhoods to knock and that racks up around 190 miles then I drive back home on Thursday another 300 miles. Thats 790 miles over the week and Ive been to places where trips was longer and ive stayed in that area for months.

My UDP works wonders. In extreme heat or super cold, works wonders. I little more cabin vibrations but nothing you couldnt get used to. Overall, I put ussually 2,430 miles on my car a month.

I have a AFX 1 Piece, I have made numerous trips to and from Buffalo area from NYC, thats about a 7hr drive, with like a 20 minute stop for food and gas in between. Thats about 400miles trip....in the summer when it was hotter it was fine. And in the winter...well, the eerie county can be quite cold in the winter so lol no worry about overheating

I have the FR one piece and been on many 12+ hour trips with absoultly no overheating problems. My trips are usually from the bottom of NC to as far north as Canada. The only problem I've expierenced with the UDP is in the summer the AC doesn't put out too well when sitting at a stop light.

S2, if you are going to have any overheating problems w/ a UDP I don't think you'll see them on a long trip. At highway speeds you're turning close to 3,000 rpm (the water pump is moving plenty of water) and you have large amounts of air moving thru the radiator. If you're going to have problems its going to be when you're stuck in traffic at an idle.

Anyhow... I have the Esslinger pulley on my car and for about half the year I drive 200 miles a day at highway speeds. I've datalogged temps before and they are at their lowest around 55 mph and creep up a bit when I get to 70+. It's rare for my head temp (not water temp) to be above 205 F at highway speed. In town that number will be 215 or so.

I don't think you'll have any problems.

Yeah I am curious, I got a FC 2 piece UDP here to put on my car but I am planning a trip (actually two days to split up a 16 or 17 hour drive) through the mountains in the warmest part of summer coming up this summer.

What's your guys opinions on the 2 piece vs the 1 piece when it comes to issues with overheating, slower A/C and things like that. Basically what I want to get is some opinions on the actual 'theory' on how it works and how it's effect you (if it has).

I appreciate the replies, feel alot better about the 2 piece then I did before.
