Used my Porter Cable 7424XP for a couple years when I ran my detailing business and never had a problem with it. Still use it on occasion.

I use this one. Cheap and been working for years. Picked it up at a traveling tool sale for $10.

It is made by Turtle Wax. I wish it had the stick on pads like the new stuff. I don't use it for putting on the wax, I do that by hand. I use it with a cutting compound then a polishing compound.

I am using Griot's 6" random orbital, and it was time to do the full detail on Wednesday, two days ago. I began with claying the surface. I've always used Maguire's, tried Mothers clay once, but didn't like it. This time I decided to try Griot's clay. Loved it. It is a very fine clay, seems not as aggressive as Maguire's, but very quick and effective.

In one of his on line tutorials, Richard Griot extols the fact that his waxing and polishing pads are especially developed for their ability to dissipate heat. I've never had a problem until Wednesday. First coat of Best of Show wax, no problem. Worked it into a haze and left it to cure for about 3 hours. When I returned to the garage to apply the 2nd coat, the outside temp had soared to 94, and I was working in my garage, as I had run out shade on the driveway.

Long story short, when I attempted application of the second coat of wax, it was so hot that when I tried to work the wax into the paint, it was drying too fast, turning to powder.
Much to my dismay, I was forced to surrender to the heat, and relax with some Coors Light.
Back to it on Thursday, temp in the low 80's, I was able to buff the surfaces to a beautiful luster.

Finishing up today, and lucky for me a cold front passed thru last nite. This morning it's a cool 60 degrees, headed for mid 80's and LOWER humidity.
Might post some pix when I've finished.
