Starting to become less and less impressed with the Focus

I'm starting to become increasingly disappointed in my 2012 Titanium w/10,000 kms (Yes, only 10,000. It was solely an RV tode and spent most of it's life behind an RV without the odo running before I started DD'ing the car). With this winter causing rutted side-streets especially in front of my house, my interior and front end are rattling like crazy. Seriously, this car sounds like a 15 year old Geo Metro inside. The interior rattles so much that I have a hard time hearing the various noises the front end makes. The passenger door panel makes this bad vibration rattle when I start it up in the morning (driver's side is starting to do it) the rear door panel makes the same noise when I drop the bass. I know it's only a $24k car, but even my 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS w/94,000kms didn't rattle as much as this one does.

As far as the front end goes, we have an RV flat-tow baseplate and tow-bar prep kit installed but I know it's not causing the noises. Over speed bumps the struts creak, and over sharp ruts there's a really raunchy knocking/rattling from what sounds like the steering box or strut towers. It's really quite embarrassing actually. It sure doesn't feel like a solid car like the otherwise excellent interior quality suggests it to be. I've been to the dealer and they were unable to find the problems in the front end, and whatever they did with the passenger's side door panel didn't fix it. I'm hesitant to go back to the dealer again knowing they might waste my time.

Any suggestions or experiences?

Change your dealer. The rest it's all on you.

Let's take this one step at a time.

First, you need to go to a different dealer. If they say they can't find anything, they haven't even looked up the technical service bulletins on your car. Have these TSBs performed on your car to address your concerns:

TSB 13-5-11
CRUNCHING OR CREAKING-TYPE NOISE FROM
FRONT OF VEHICLE—LOW SPEED TURNS AND
BUMPS

TSB 13-12-9
CLUNK/RATTLE NOISE FROM FRONT END DURING
PARKING MANEUVERS AND/OR OVER ROUGH
SURFACES AT LOW SPEEDS BETWEEN 8-32 KM/H
5-20 MPH)

Interior rattles are pretty tough to isolate in this car. I have a couple that come and go depending on the weather and I have not been able to isolate the source - neither has the dealer. I had one in the dashboard the dealer did finally isolate and fix.

As much as others seem to want to blame you, the fact is that in this day and age a manufacturer should be able to assemble a car that isn't a rattle box. My hondas didn't rattle, my jeep grand cherokee didn't rattle. My wife's buick doesn't rattle.

My 2010 Honda Insight rattled more than any car I've ever owned. Rough ride, suspension creaks, NAV screen rattled, road noise...I love my quiet Focus.

No rattles in mine, and it has 85k miles on it.

Actually, there might be rattles, but the car I came from rattled and squeaked so much, I could be driving a can of ball bearings down the road and would probably think it was quiet. So I'm probably not the best judge of it.

Mine to rattles creaks and clunks. While annoying that my 18mo old car does this, it's the confidence sucking feeling that bothers me the most. I trust or 7yr old '06 A4 more than I trust this car. It really shouldn't be that way.

What's worse is this is my first Ford since '94 and I think they've lost me again. Living in a Ford town that's rather unfortunate.

Honestly they should deal with these issues before shipping it. I am a benz tech and we never let a car leave with a noise unless the customer doesnt want to pay for the repair. Its your dealer thats the issue, change that to a much better one
