Ported throttle Body

Modern performance has finally released a ported throttle body for the focus st. The throttle body has been ported out to a 59mm from a 57mm.

After doing some research I noticed that the regular focus and the st share the same throttle body. So I recently ordered one to test it out. The throttle body should be here Monday and next weekend I hope to do a big parts install weekend.

I will post update once the throttle body arrives.

The N/A focus does use a 57mm TB, same as the st.

After installing and letting the car idel and warm up I took it for a 1mile test run. I noticed I have much better throttle response, better high end pull, feel of torque seems to have not changed. The car overall performs much better. This is definitely a good buy but my only concern is that I will need a new tune. Even though it's not a drastic increase in throttle body size I feel that now the car might be getting to much air and I need to move to a custom tune instead of the injected tune to better monitor airflow and air to fuel ratio.

Overall the car felt pretty solid on power end. It really picks up the power curve at about 37-3800 rpms and pulls hard till redline. I have to set up some dyno time and then I have exact numbers.

Important side note: replace the throttle body gasket when you install new TB. I noticed mine was a bit limp and the rubber o-ring needed to be replaced.

10 hp gain on the turbo focus means even less for us n/a guys. Just not sure if it is worth almost 300 bucks. By the way are u sure ours is 57mm? 2mm just dont seem like it will help much especialy if we have the one that turbo version is using. Will u dyno it also? Keep us updated

You will notice something, because more air is getting in for the same amount of throttle. Will you gain on the top end, maybe who knows. Basically will make your throttle more sensitive.

When I had my '04 Mazda6 2.3 i4, there was a user who was porting/polishing the throttle body. Some say it added a bit better response but not much else. $300 is excessive for n/a. A larger TB opening will help our cars but a tune would be a better investment if you didn't already have it. Otherwise a great DIY. Get one used off ebay or a wreckers and buy a honing tool. Should be fun.

I wouldn't call it $300 considering it's $290 minus $80 for sending back your old unit.

Either way, more air is a good thing.

Exactly my thought. If it really works with our n/a mk3 cars then i would be willing to pay the 210 dollars or so. For those guys who are running a tune it would help more possibly. Im very interested in this.
