Is the factory battery that bad?

I've seen a couple posts now where the person has replaced the factory battery. That strikes me as very strange. Maybe things have changed but, I'm still accustomed to a factory battery lasting at least 6 years; definitely until after the factory warranty has expired.

I'm really curious to know how many people have replaced a factory battery already?

*Further questions*
Build date of the car?
How many miles on the car?
What symptoms lead to replacement?

Bought mine early '12, not a single problem. Everyone I know hasn't had any problems either.

batteries don't like sitting
I got more than 8yrs out of the factory battery in my Civic but it would be very rare that the car wasn't run every day
I only changed the battery because I figured I was living on borrowed time after 8yrs
if the vehicle is going to sit I would recommend at battery tender

No trouble here; Dec 2011 build, running strong. Absolutely no problems cranking over even in bitter cold.

I would venture a guess that it's simply because there are no threads discussing their operational battery. I've had batteries go out on a couple of my new non-Ford vehicles under warranty. If anything, that's when I would prefer for there to be a failure.
