Question Buying my First Focus(ST)/ What's an A/Z Plan?

I couldn't find this elsewhere on the forum so here I am.

I'm buying my first Ford and first Focus within the next month or so. My Dad and I found a new Oxford White ST-1 at a local dealer online and we're planning on trading in my '08 Saturn Astra XR with 43,000 miles for the ST when that day comes. A few questions came to mind when I saw the price.

This is what it said online in terms of the price:

A/Z Plan
Price: $20,960
MSRP: $24,420
Instant Savings: $1,960
Cash Back: $1,500

I have no idea what an A/Z Plan is; I assume it has something to do with the lowest price a dealer can put on a car. It's the cheapest ST we've found and we don't want to let it go!

The other problem is that it's at a dealer that we don't go to as we've already got a dealer we've been going to since 1999. Could that ST be shipped or transported to the dealer we go to and can that price in question be final based upon negotiations with our current salesperson??

I'm new to doing business with dealerships, but luckily my parents will be doing the talking and I'll be there to learn how it's done. Do you get the keys to car once you put a down payment on the car?

Thank you to anyone who can help!

A through Z plans are discounts for certain people. I work for a Ford Dealership, So I get D Plan. Suppliers get a Plan as well as Ford Retirees and Ford Employees. Chances are that you dont apply for one.

Just like misfire said, unless you don't have anyone related to you working for Ford, then nothing applies to you. I get A-plan (which is the biggest discount) because my Dad works for Ford.

The only way a car could get transported like you said, is if the two dealerships work out a dealer trade, one car for another. That's all I know.

This is killing my hopes of owning a Focus...

The Dart GT I was looking at was much cheaper without any of those plans and had everything I wanted on it. Our neighbor use to work for Ford. And since we've been going to that dealer for 10 years, is there any discount that could be provided based on those credentials? Like a "know someone" and "loyalty" discount?

It seems easier to just have my dealer order a car, I just don't want to wait who knows how long to get one if that happens.

Would it be hard for a dealer to trade cars with another? Even a used ST at that.

Best thing to do is contact the dealership. There may be Dealer Cash from Ford, but only they would know. It changes by region.

Dealer 'trades' only happen between dealers who are 'friends'. I know several dealers who will only trade with certain ones, and NOT at all with certain others. Typically trades are for 'cars of equal value' So if a dealer trades a hot selling car, they want a hotselling car in return.. Not something which has been sitting on the lot for eight months.
Plus the trading dealers need to be in the same 'zone' or something.

As for discounts.. anyone can deal a discount. the Ford plans are automatic discounts. And no just because you know somebody who knows sombody does not give you a discount . Buy some Ford stock, then you can get the ford stockholders discount. (thought if you are dating the dealers daughter, then maybe you can get the family discount.. Depending if the Father likes you or not)

Shows how much I know about dealerships. It seems like ordering would be the only way to go then... Much more direct and easier but Id have to wait for a car to be built!

I did go to high school with the owners' kids and we're friends with the owners family too. I'm gonna make my dad take me back so I can get this all cleared up. Not sure if it'll do any good though.

If you order it you get it EXACTLY how you want tho. look thru the options for the ST's you'll find than is ST1 is optioned about the same as an SE, nothing wrong with that as I own an SE and Love it, but if you want more you'll have to get an ST2 or ST3

I'm thinking that may be the only way to go on this. I might be able to get my dad to fork over extra $$ to get me the rado grey wheels as "compensation" for disallowing me an ST2 which I really wanted but oh well. If I could order an ST1 in Oxford White or Race Red, I be able to live with it. Do you have an idea of what turnaround time would be on an order? Like a month at the least? I assume it depends on supply and demand or something like that.

Might be able to help you out a little if you are good friends with family then.

All depends. A general ballpark time for ordering a car can be anywhere from 4-8 weeks. But ordering is the way to go if you can't get exactly what you want, and you want exactly what you want. I ordered my Focus (now traded in for the Fusion I ordered) and Fusion, because not one dealer had exactly what I wanted to drive around everyday and be happy with.
