MK2 (North American 2008-2011 models) changes over the years thread

Is there a thread on this? Was driving behind another Focus and it seemed the trunk was different. Didn't have the horizontal crease/line along the middle. The rear lights also seemed different. Same shape but no white around reflector.
I'm wondering if there's a thread of over the year changes, differences and or facelift items. Seems like one change at least was in the middle of the m.y. 2009 production.
I know about:
1. Some earlier ones had a chrome plastic trim on fenders.
2. Some have black or dark grey grille.
3. Later models have inside trunk release near driver's left kick panel.
4. Later models temp and compass display in center info display...some have compass in mirror?

If there's no thread missing, please post what other items you know were changed. Thanks!

2009: Removed Fender chrome, 17" 15 spoke became an option for 2009 SES sedans. Coupe got a minor lift with SES Coupes getting the sport bumper and rear with dark accents.
2010: Some sedan SES got the sport bumpers and dark chrome
2011: No coupe

Not many changes there may be a few more.

You are semi correct on this but not really lol
SES Sedan from 2010-2011 came with the ses sport bumper and dark chrome.

2008-2009 coupe and sedan trunk is different as it has a key hole while 2010-2011 focus do not.

I believe there is a thread on here somewhere where me and a few others determined all of the total variances of the focus from 2008-2011 but I'm not sure where it is as it was a couple of years ago. But there are many many differences and it was determined that it could vary as much as what state or what dealership you got yours from as some dealers had slightly different setups. For example there is more than just the sport exhaust and the normal exhaust. There is also two different setups for Pzev focus. Also my exhaust setup on the 2010 sedan was different that someone else and both of our cars are non pzev 2010 se sedans.

There is some consistency but still it comes down to exactly when and where a given focus was built. Some sedans have oem rear sway bars regardless of being se or ses. Another member had an oem RSB on his sedan but mine did not have one.

If you have any specific questions I will try my best to answer them or see if I can dig up the answers(=

1. Some earlier ones had a chrome plastic trim on fenders.
That chrome your talking about was available on all years. It is the SEL model.

2. Some have black or dark grey grille.
Coupes and SES models came standard with dark chrome.

3. Later models have inside trunk release near driver's left kick panel.
2008-2009 have a keyhole on the trunk. 2010-2011 do not have a key hole in the trunk and came standard with the button trunk release.

4. Later models temp and compass display in center info display...some have compass in mirror?
Some Sync models came with the compass in the mirror. All 2010-2011 models have a temp readout at the oem radio display while some ses and sel 2008-2009 have it. But we did see an instance here on the forum where there was an exception and a 2011 owner did not have the temp.

08-09
Added rear head rests
Coupes got different bumpers and dark chrome trim
Coupes got a sport tuned exhaust when equipped with 5spd
Coupes got a rear sway bar
Trunk release in cabin
Exterior temp sensor
Chrome fender trim only available on SEL

09-10
SES sedans now have coupe bumpers and trim
T/C ABS ASM made standard
No trunk key hole
Chrome fender vents removed from SEL model

And yes, there is a thread we made a couple years ago floating around somewhere.

The final drive gear was changed on the automatics in 2009 to improve acceleration compared to the 2008

There are differences in seat cover materials through the years produced.

For 08 and part of 09, HomeLink was a dealer installed option on higher trim levels.

Ford removed the chrome fender "vent" for 2009 and refreshed the coupe appearance with new bumpers, spoiler, black accents and 17" wheels.

"Sport exhaust" was available on 2009 Coupes built with a manual transmission and the engines were rated at 143hp over the standard car's 140hp.

Rear headrests were standard on SES and SEL trims and optional on S and SE for years 08 and 09. The headrests were made standard on all trims for 10 and 11 models.

The coupe was only produced for the first half of 2010 and the "sport exhaust" was not available.

On cars with the 17" wheel package, the suspension received stiffer damping as well.

ABS/ESC was not made standard until 2010, though most models had it equipped.

I don't know of any "major" changes that were made.

I have a couple of points to add: My 2009 SE sedan has a trunk release button on the lower driver’s side kick panel. Also, I have the Temp and Compass display in the radio display at the top of the dash. Those changes may have been late 2009 changes as I bought my car in March of 2009.

^ Yes have seen others mention this. Me and my sis have 2009's also, my VIN ending 9W1323xx, hers 9W2168xx...she has the items mentioned above so there was a production change.
