Key/Key Fob Compatibility?

I was hoping that the key and key fob would be integrated on the 2011, but it's not. Is there any way to get a 2011 Mustang or 2011 Edge (or any other vehicle that uses it) key fob to work on a 2011 Focus? Here's a pic of the one I'm talking about:

The Fob should be no issue to program but you will of course need to have the key blank cut and vehicle programmed to accept the transponder chip in the key.

I found one on ebay uncut for $30, but I don't really want to shell that out with no more information. It says to make sure you have a flat cut ignition before buying, and that you have a car on the list. The Focus is not on the list, but from the pics I've seen, the key cut looks identical to what my 2011's keys look like. The only difference I notice is that the trunk button shows press 2x, whereas my fob is just the standard Ford one (from the mid '90s lol) that only requires one press.

Yes, the key should work. The keys and PATS system is the same on almost all Fords around this generation (they changed the keys and systems on the new Fords coming out, starting with the MK3 Focus). I got an ebay key for my 2010, and it did list almost all Fords around this gen. If anything, look for one that works with a 2011 Escape, since most things are the same between them and our cars. Just make sure the remote has the 4 buttons. If it only has 3 buttons (usually the trunk button is not there), it not work.

See this one (Escape key): http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-FORD-LIN...67545b&vxp=mtr

The older 3 button key fobs do work with the MK2's, for the heck of it i tried one as i was about to reprogram it to a 2001 windstar, of course as mentioned no trunk access but some 3 button fob's do have the capability to open the trunk as the contact on the PCB is there but the button pad to activate it isn't there like the one i was programming.

Really? Good to know! I was told by someone that the 3-buttons used some different frequency or different programming or something (I don't remember exactly). But I've never tried those remotes, so I never knew for sure. Thanks for correcting me tho! (Not sarcasm. Really, thanks! )

Thanks for the info guys, I have it set to email me when there's replies but that works like 2/10 times lol. Anyway, I figured that key would work, but I prefer the looks of the key I posted. I might buy one and see if I can program the remote and if not send it back before I get it cut. As far as cutting these should I just go to a locksmith or should I have Ford do it via VIN number?

Well I just found this for you. It say's it works with the Escape (so I'm assuming the Focus would work too). I looked up a key on ebay for the 2011 Mustang, and it says "80-bit security keyless entry" just like the one I posted below says. So my gut says it should work. Plus I don't think Ford would spend the money to have multiple keyless entry computers/systems for their cars in the same year (excluding the newest re-designed models coming out), but that's just my guess. Anyways, let us know how everything works out for you! Good luck!

It depends on how much you wish to spend? Most dealers will charge quite a bit to do this, or find a locksmith that program keys, usually they charge less than half of what the average dealer would charge.

My example is i had a second key programmed for my focus, i went to the local ford dealer and inquired about it, they quoted me $115 to cut and program a key. Went 1/2 mile down the road to the local locksmith that also programs electronic keys and they quoted $45 to cut and program. Of course both the dealer and locksmith tried to get me to purchase their offering of a key blank with chip that varied in price from $50 to $35 respectively but i already had one on order from eBay for $5.

My total cost was $50 for key blank, cut and program and it works perfectly!
Depending on the dealer and locksmith your mileage may vary!!!!.
