Base pay for Ford salesmen???

I have an interview tomorrow at a Ford dealership and now I have second toughts about it since people are telling me all kind of horror stories about pay. Does anyone know what the base pay would be at a Ford dealership? I know I will find out tomorrow anyways but would like to know before I go in and get shocked... I am getting laid off in May and was trying to find a job that pays similar in the 40-50k per year range. I know with commission its endless but I am worried about the first year or so since I wont have and refferals.

No such thing.
There are no corporate Ford dealerships. So things like pay are all up to the ownership of that dealership or dealership conglomerate.

I've been at 3 Ford stores, I've seen some salesman make $30,000/year and others make $150,000/year.

Thanks for the replys. I decided not to take the job, it seems like they would hire anyone really. The pay is not guaranteed plus 12 hours days 5 days a week is too much at this point since I have a family and would rather spend more time with my 6 month old daughter. If the pay was guaranteed than it would be harder to decline since I love cars especially Fords. Time to keep searching!

If you sell a lot you'll earn good money otherwise it's kind of crappy.

The place I used to sell at gave us a base pay of $200 a week plus our comissions. Some places only give comission.

If you have a strong customer service (not necessarily sales only) background, you should apply at some higher-end dealerships. I worked for Audi for a short time and the pay was great. They didn't care that I had no professional experience with cars, but they loved how I worked in fine dining. Higher end dealerships generally have much stronger base pay and make a smaller percent of commission (part of the reason why you never feel pushed at an Audi or Mercedes dealer). Higher end dealerships also generally follow their corporations' guidelines much more strictly. People from Audi (the actual company) were ALWAYS at the dealership.

Keep in mind that some Dealerships set insane sales goals.

My grandfather owned a car dealership, but passed away before I was born. Cars are in my blood.

I think I'd be a good salesman because my dad always taught me, "If you take care of people, the money will be there".
