02 SVT in question!? serious advice appreciated, critics not needed!

so we're considering bringing in another SVT to the family, try to keep this one alive, but fellas let me tell you this guys' post makes it confusing to trust and understand if you guys can help with any form of B.S. detector would help greatly. so here is what he says.

Bought new car and don't have the time or money to fix this car. Has broken transmission linkage and needs new rack and pinion which is leaking power steering fluid.
*Car turns over and engine in good condition but needs to be towed away*
The previous owner damaged the catalytic converter and welded it back together instead of replacing it. I learned this when it became clogged due to running rich with non-functioning oxygen sensors. As the SVT model replacement part is hard to find for less than 1200$ due to its unique shape, I opted to have my mechanic remove clogged second stage of the cat instead of replacing it, which while it works fine and allowed me to pass emissions, it does make it a little louder. Without second stage the 2nd oxygen sensor doesn't reach a temperature for accurate function so it does cause a check engine light.

any help in advance before he parts it out or sends to the crusher, would be a benefit to all of us, but 1st and foremost me

I think you can use an O2 cheater to clear the MIL.

A couple of months ago I purchased a high flow cat for my '04 SVTF from C-F-M for about $500. Been working great so far. Probably have about 3000 miles on it since installation. Would recommend it. Ford dealer wanted about $1500 for a Ford cat, so C-F-M's price was greatly appreciated.

I saw that same ad on CL. Honestly, not being able to test drive any car scares me. I walked away although the price seems fair. Who knows if the owner is even trustworthy...

thank you everyone for the advice, and idea for parts. but this guy doesn't seem to reply to my emails anymore. as for cobravert, i was looking to inspect and replace mentioned parts. and if all else fails. store the entire car for spare parts or restoration down the road.

Bought mine for 2400 on christmas eve and the dude had curbed it pretty hard. i took a gamble and lost but after 800 bucks worth of new front end parts she drives great. I also have broken shift cables but they are zip tied on but I found a almost new set of them for cheap im gonna pick up ASAP. they are worth putting a little money into I would say. From looking on ebay a new set of cables will set you back around 100 bucks.

If you are a pretty confident mechanic and have some tools, go for it. We are all here to help :)
