After 60,000+ miles, depending on how dirty/dusty your air is, the "lifetime" air filter will reduce fuel mileage. A cone shaped washable air filter, two silicone hose 90 degree elbows, a few other pieces, and a little ingenuity will locate the filter up against the bottom of the headlight assembly. That greatly reduces the chance of getting water in the intake, restores the fuel economy, and adds power. good luck

How hard was it to remove the air tube from behind the the fender? Did you have to take the fender off? What you did was what I was going to do, how long did it take you to remove the lower portion of the air box and air tube from the finder? I was going to put the CIA from Cfm that has the AEM air bypass valve and prefilter to handle the issue of water.

Remove the plastic fender well to get the air filter assembly off. Getting the factory over tightened screws out of the plastic anchors took longer that the rest of the job. There is one hard to see and reach bolt on the air cleaner mount. Good luck

Did you use hand tools or air tools? So just have to take the plastic fender we'll out and it reveals the air box assembly? Cool beans

When I did this, I only used hand tools. If I remember correctly, there are some bolts that are hard to get to, so some long extensions are useful. Also, you'll need a torx bit socket to get the fenderwell and airdam apart from the bumper in one corner. Don't remember what size though.

What I did was remove the filter box, then grab the tube that runs inside the fender and rip it out. Just grab it and pull down and towards the bumper. The plastic rips free rather easily. I originally used a "universal" Spectre kit to replace it all, but ended up putting a K&N CAI on back in the summer.

I believe the torqs screw in the wheel well is a T30. The other screws are 7mm if I remember correctly.

2004 Pzev

Has anyone done this to a 2004? My exhaust mani is leaking and has a hole. Was thinking about a header but not sure what else I need to do to the motor to make one work. Just block it off? And do I need to get an Xcal and tune the car from stock. Ect Ect. Anybody done this and can help?

I installed a spectre cone filter from advance auto to remove the non serviceable factory air box. Literally all you do is remove all the factory junk minus the maf tube, slip the cone over the stock maf tube (a little water or lube spray helps), tigthen a hose clamp around it, and drink beer.

Sounds better, little better throttle repsonse (when it wants to respond), and better mpg all around (city, highway, AC on, etc) when I'm not trying to make it sound better lol
