I like it, and I like that the more expensive 4cyl turbo has more power than the v6. I'd like to see track performance of each engine. I wonder if the 4 cyl can rule a curvy track, and overcome the V8's power advantage.

I think the new rear is sexy. Kind of (not surprising I guess, considering the plan to sell the car worldwide) European-looking. I don't know about the frontal styling. But in one of the videos there is a head-on shot of the car approaching the camera, and those LED "gills" actually give it a pretty aggressive look.

One of the things that turned me off the current Mustangs is the interior is pretty low-rent. A lot of cheap hard plastics. I knew someone who got one of the first-year 5.0 GTs (2011?) and I thought the interior of my much older GTO was nicer than the Mustang. So if they really did improve the materials and quality of the interior that is a huge leap forward in making the car less of a compromise (i.e. no longer having to say "yeah the interior's cheap but it goes fast!").

I know... I was unimpressed as well. I'm unimpressed with nearly all manufacturers nowadays anyways. It seems that sports cars are really dead for the masses. We're left with sports coupes- it's not the same thing IMO. Don't get me wrong, I do like the Mustang, and I'm interested in the 4 cyl turbo. I just don't want more than one passenger.

It's always been easier to sell something with even nominal rear seats, even if you wouldn't want to sit there.

Look at the 911 or 944 for example.

Even the Miata has gone upmarket a bit, leaving nothing at the bottom.

Gotta think that almost all new cars being financed has a lot to do with this. Adding features adds profits and it's easier to sell when "it's only a few more dollars a month". Seen something similar in motorcycles, with the profusion of sportbikes & cruisers folks asked for a new "standard" bike that was less expensive as well. Each time I saw one introduced, sales were poor & they didn't last long.

Mustang might have made it's "rep" with the Shelby's & the GT, but it started as an inexpensive sporty car anyone could own in place of an economy sedan. The new V6 models, with decent performance & economy at a more reasonable price might help sales again. There's more competition now for that market - IMHO the Focus had a similar start to the original Mustang & now even that market is split with the Fiesta filling the bottom end.

I'm tempted by the Mustang myself, it's a car I always liked and haven't owned yet!

It might even replace the P/U, I can always use the excuse that it'll pull a trailer when I
need to haul junk around....

I like it. But I don't feel like they've changed enough. I understand that they have some Mustang traditionalists to appeal to, but considering their recent sales numbers, a drastic change might not be a bad idea. However, I do love fact that they are putting a 2.3T in it.

Anyone else think it looks slightly like an Aston Martin Vanquish?

Thats exactly what I thought when I first saw it! The front ends are almost identical. I think that with a more aggresive body kit on it, it might not be so bad... Just not "mean" enough for my taste...
