Valve clearance & internal valve cover leak

OK, pretty new to this car, '06 ZX3 2.0 Duratec. 1. Sounds like cylinder #1 has excessive valve lash. Is lash (clearance) set with varying size followers? 2. Upon changing spark plugs yesterday I noticed that the plug wells for both # 2 and 3 cylinders were filled with oil. Had to siphon about a cup of oil out befor i could remove the plugs. No consumption between oil changes, and no external leaks. Aside from the valve noise the engine runs great. Any help greatly appreciated. Jim

yes, it's set with the followers, although they are more formally called buckets, so you might get better search results if you use that word.

Focii are notorious for leaking valve cover gaskets. If yours is a recent purchase, then it's possible that the previous owner replaced the gasket and/or cleaned up the engine, but neglected the plug wells. So, you might be seeing evidence of an old leak.

Yeah, I had to replace the valve cover gaskets on my 2005. Just had a minor leak to the #4 spark plug well, but a leak nonetheless. In the oil gallery, I call those tappets, but these days who knows.
