Fuel filler door catch broken

01 Wagon. Searched but could not find anything on forums.

The fuel door itself is fine, but when you close it it does not stick closed like it should. It hangs open a tiny bit. Looks like there should be some kind of catch in the rear of the filler area that hooks on the prong on the filler door. I tried looking on Fordparts.com at schematics but can't find one of this particular area/part.

Anyone else have a fuel door that won't stay closed, and how to fix, i.e. what part I need to replace the catch mechanism that the fuel door prong grips into?

Thanks

Moved to "General Technical Chat". You can go to a local junkyard and get a fuel door assembly. Ford as far as I know doesn't just sell the latch on it's own as it is part the entire assembly. I did a quick check on this and found several of them on Ebay listed for 20-40 dollars for various colors. If you have a Pull & Pay place nearby, I would recommend going there and getting one for yourself. And if you're lucky enough, you will find one in the color that matches your car.

Thanks. Looks from the parts fiche online that the rubber or plastic housing is available separate from the door itself. It just doesn't show enough to know if you're getting the latch parts too or just the surround piece, so I was hesitant to order it. For $27, though, a better deal than the used parts on eBay. I think I'll comb the local pick and pull and see what I can come up with for those prices. $40 seems fairly steep to me for a used gas door.
