Difficult Transmission Problem

'01 SE, Zetec, auto, 90K. A couple of months ago I started having a problem where the "!" transaxle light would sometimes come on in stop and go traffic, or if I had just come off the freeway and slowed to a stop. The transmission would begin to slip a bit, and become hard to shift into reverse. Turning the car off for a couple minutes and restarting it would seemingly solve the problem, for a little while.

The shop I go to couldn't figure out the problem, since they couldn't reproduce the condition and the car was throwing no codes. They changed out the fluid and filter, which were very old (perhaps original?), but with the pan off saw no filings or other obvious problems. This fluid change took care of the problem... for a couple of days.

I took it back to them on Friday after it happened again. After they ran it for a while it did throw a code - for the fluid pressure control solenoid. So they replaced that, put in some more fluid to replace what was lost in the job, and road tested it. And that took care of the problem... for about 4 hours.

Now the problem is actually worse - with the "!" light coming on anytime after the engine gets warm. But the shop can find no codes, and they seem a bit stumped as to what the problem is. Has anyone else experienced something like this? Any useful thoughts or suggestions?

If no codes are coming up I would look at your wiring to the trans an make sure it isnt rubbed through the insulation
