Manufacturers spend millions engineering a new model. They also have to pass crash tests. A bending vehicle sounds ridiculous to me.

I think some people need verification that they made the right choice. Maybe he saw the C-Max and saw features his Prius didn't have and wanted to, in his own mind, justify his purchase by focusing on any potential issue the competition may have. He heard it from a guy who heard it from a guy and can't WAIT to tell you (Ever play the telephone game?). Could've started out as a bent door handle or a bent windshield wiper on one car, that eventually turned into nearly ever C-Max ever produced bending in the middle due to the weight of the batteries! (which is ludacris, by the way). Go back in a couple of months and see what they say! LOL.

Happens all the time, with all sorts of things. People get emotionally attached to their product, and seek out any flaws in the competition to point out to complete strangers to justify their own purchases.

Also 'common problems' are often not common. Hundreds of thousands of these cars are built every year. Half a dozen people reporting an issue on an internet message board is hardly a 'common problem'.

I know more about cars than the average person so I knew right away that he was BSing me. He went on to say that because the car is based on the Focus that the weight of the battery is causing frame problems and peoples' cars to actually bend. He then said it we wanted a hybrid not to consider anything other than the Prius.

Has anyone ever heard of people doing this at car shows? Could he be a Prius enthusiast or even a paid Troll by Toyota?

I looked up what he told me on my phone after he left and couldn't find a single mention of it.
