Auto Show Trolls

My wife and I went to the CT Auto show this weekend. We are looking for a bigger car to replace her Hyundai Accent now that she is pregnant. She really like the C-Max. It's the perfect size for her and gets great gas mileage.

When we were sitting in the C-Max talking about it some guy came up and said "did you hear about all the problems Ford is having with this car?" I know more about cars than the average person so I knew right away that he was BSing me. He went on to say that because the car is based on the Focus that the weight of the battery is causing frame problems and peoples' cars to actually bend. He then said it we wanted a hybrid not to consider anything other than the Prius.

Has anyone ever heard of people doing this at car shows? Could he be a Prius enthusiast or even a paid Troll by Toyota?

I looked up what he told me on my phone after he left and couldn't find a single mention of it.

I get that type of thing at work all the time
Someone that has no clue to the truth gives their opinion and then the rumours start , next thing you know someone else would swear to that rumour as God given truth

I have never heard of plants to deter someone but could see a disgruntled customer making it their mission to kill sales

Most car shows I have attended (old restored cars, not new ones) there will be some idiots that try to act like experts and pick apart the cars while being 100% wrong on most accounts.

Haven't seen it at a car show personally, however I could imagine this kind of thing happening at an auto show in Toronto. I have never seen a region outside of Southern Ontario with a more rabidly anti-ford attitude in circles of car culture. Almost always from a chevy fanatic with a huge chip on his shoulder, bonus points if he is driving a black chevy pick up.

I moved to Alberta in '07 and was surprised to learn many car folk are fans of ford, and many rednecks drive ford trucks.

If you look on some of the review boards across the 'net, alot of really good/bad reviews are actually dealer & corporate reps trying to get people to come to their brand.

The only thing my brother & I got from going to one of those shows, is some poeple don't fit in the vechicles & some have all the room in the world. Most of the vechicles are pretty desent now.

Eh... I always reply intellectually first asking pertinent questions that won't fit with their description like: How much does the battery weigh? What kind of battery is it? Where is it in the car? Usually when you start questioning people like that, the idiocracy of their statements comes out. I really got into it with a guy over a Nissan motor once that he thought was turbocharged when it obviously wasn't. I had him saying it was a hydraulic turbo and all sorts of funny stuff.
