if it keeps oscillating until you leave that RPM band, then it might be the DPFE.

Before you buy a new one, ask your dealer if they will warranty it. Not sure if it was a recall issue or grandfathered under the EPA emissions warranty, but I got my first one for free.

I leaned a good lesson many years ago when it comes to engine oil "Stick with a name brand oil and you are good to go"

I buy new cars and keep them for around 10 years and I usually change the oil myself. One of my cars that was coming to the end of my ownership life. I thought I would start using store brand oils vs Name Brand to save some cash and not caring much abought the car. In a few months I noticed an oil leak at the rear main seal I thought nothing of it considering the car was 9 years old. At the next oil change I bought a name brand oil on sale (same price as house brand oil) and in a few weeks the oil leak stopped. After this experience I will only use name brand oil whether it's Dino or Synthetic oil.

Did you get a CEL when the pressure switch gave up the ghost?

I'm not sure how they would warranty it, but i will check on the price. Is there a way to tell if the DPFE is bad?

I dunno. Alot of it is probably made under the same roof, maybe with different additives or maybe the same. Kinda like trying to second-guess whether a Whirlpool appliance is better than a Kenmore when they're both made by the same company.

When my Ford's hit 100K, I switch them over to synthetic (any brand, on sale) and stretch the maintenance interval out to 5K-7K just to make life a little easier. Any more effort/cash than that is kinda like taking an old wife out to a new restaurant.

don't think so. water accumulates in them, and then the PCB potting eventually deteriorates and the electronics fail.
