Traded the svtfocus in

I wanted to thank ff.com for everything I learned on the site. FF.com is a great, supportive site and I learned a lot, saved money with the many how to's, and was able to educate myself of the direction I wanted to take with the svtf.

Ultimately, time and money encouraged me to explore other platforms. The svtf was breaking down faster than I could repair. With winter on it's way and not having a garage I made the decision to get rid of it before winter really sets in. Over the years I had a blast taking the car on tracks in the area and a few autocrosses. With all the fun came wear and tear. As my only car I needed something not broken all the time. The car ceased to be fun.

I made the move on a 2010 mazdaspeed3 w/ tech package. As soon as I drove the ms3 I knew it was the next logical vehicle, more doors, more power and exciting to drive. I'll post up pics of the svt's journey in a bit.

Thanks again fanatics.

Sad to see that Svt leave but very nice choice on the replacement. Any plans for the MS3?

Thanks 02fordsvt. Pretty much keeping it stock till at least spring. Seriously considering a set of winters ASAP. The car came with really crappy tires, Goodrides, wtf? So I'll probably use the Goodrides on a few hpde's until they are toast, then upgrade tires.

Overall, I'm really happy with the power upgrade, the front bumper that eventually grew on me, and general feel for the car but eventually I'd like to upgrade possibly with a Cobb stage 2, larger tmic, bsd delete with oil baffle, maybe Koni yellows with a slight drop, tint, and gold wheels.

I'm trying to keep it civilized with the ms3. My svtfocus was pretty hi strung, stiff , and loud with the upgrades I added with motor mounts, exhaust, and Konis yellows and H&R race springs.

I'm new to turbo charged cars so I will be reading a lot before any major purchases. Really, I'm not gonna get crazy in the power department. In the chicago traffic, it is plenty fast.

The saddest part was taking of all the parts I put on, quite emotional.

Yeah I think ford still owned mazda in 2010. At least the foci's McGard splined lugs fit the ms3. I seriously considered a focus st, but needed more time to save up and the reviews on track have been less than stellar. Eats thru brakes. And the fiesta st is too small. I may be back when the RS comes out.

Thanks Felix, he car is a blast. Too bad the weather now is mostly freezing and wet out. So I haven't been able to really explore the potential. I'll be sticking with the stock LSD for now. The stock cone gear type lsd made by GKN and is supposed to be pretty good. Trust me, after installing the Torsen in the svt,I knew I had to have one in any fwd car I owned. Seeing the the ms3 came with one oem was a huge bonus.

I was really trying to hold out for the next for the next gen vw gti w/performance pack but needed a ride ASAP.

Sounds like worn racecar didn't work for DD anymore.

Nice move up to something that'll work for you - and still be a hoot when you want it to be!

Mine's starting to get eaten by the rust monster, nothing too bad yet but the signs are there - it won't be around forever. Couple winters off the road didn't save it.

Factory Limited Slip is a good deal! I'm sure "felix" didn't know you had one already.

Cheers!

Yea, I knew the speed3's come w/ the cone style which is better then none, but wearout pretty quickly & doesn't have the feel of a torsen. I had a cone style in my 5.0 & wore out real quick & switched out to a torsen & made a big difference as far as how the car felt & handled in the corners. You'll notice some torque steer, w/ the stock lsd, adding a Mfactory diff. makes a difference as a guy down the street, has one.
