Dilemma: Miata or Focus

So I currently have a 2005 Focus ST. 82k miles. Runs great. Looks great. Nice little car. I'm currently in the process of paying it off aggressively within 6 months. The original plan was to pay off the ST super fast and pick up a 2006+ Miata for 10-12k. Although, the idea of having to insure two cars and so on seems like a bit of a pain.

My other idea is to pay off the 2005 ST,sell it, and buy a new 2014 Focus SE hatch. The prices are criminally cheap on Focuses. Quite a few dealers selling what I want for $13,900.

So it comes down to having my current car AND a 2006 Miata, or just a new Focus.

I like the two car plan, something I've done with a P/U & car for a long time. Always nice to have a spare ride when you're working on the other one... And for different purposes.

FWIW - insurance on two older vehicles, after two car discount, is often less than insuring one NEW car - and the pain of two registrations & inspections is relatively minor.

I'd go new Focus. Full new car warranty, roadside assistance, maybe free oil changes, etc. You're set for a decade with good fuel economy. You can haul stuff such as on a camping trip. I've had a couple 2 seat convertibles. Yes they're fun but not very practical - and a box cutter away from breaking into.

Spare cars are nice to have.

Also take into consideration repair costs, and if you do all of the work (cost will be parts only) or pay for the work................

I insure all 3 of mine for about $140/month with reasonable deductibles.

If I owned a Miata I would do a V8 conversion LOL
They are fun as is but a V8 would take it to a whole new level

Is this even a question? If you fit in it comfortably, go with the Miata.

However I think you should pay off the car quickly like originally planned, and then just start saving money instead of paying for another car plus the interest you'd be paying to a stupid bank.

I just bought an 1994 Miata as a second car about two months ago. My insurance only went up like $25 a month, but it is a 20 year old car. I think its great having a Miata as a second car. My SVT is a ton of fun, but not much can compete with driving a Miata with the top down for pure fun factor.

If not a Mazdaspeed Miata, I don't think it's worthwhile. N/A Miatas are fairly gutless and boring to me. :-\ If you're tired of the ST, get the new hatch. If you don't want a note, play with the ST, make it yours all over again and enjoy the new look/feel that could be had with the same car.

The cheapest car you have is the one you have now. If you can fit in a Maita w/ no issues great. It is a moumentum car like the foci, unless you turbo the foci.
