Ordered Euro upper and lower grilles and a 2guage full A-pillar pod from BAT before they are gone.

Sad to see they dont have svt rear bumpers. Id like one alot. Euros were 6mo wait and 'maybe'. Eek.

More interior and dash prep ahead this wkend. Perhaps harbor freight and a basic car tent too.

day 8

A light Sunday after helping my brother all day saturday with flood damage control. So not much time to work but still key procedures are now complete.

A day late and not much time to work, but i started with getting the carpet outta the way.

day8 - 3/4 view with it out. ready to go for wiring down passenger side.

day8 - quite good condition. i think cleaning and she'll be fine. gonna sit on that one for a while.

day8 - getting rid of AC components. they will not stay and needed them out to remove rest of wiring.

day8 - this fender bolt fought me all the way and in the end had to be sacrificed. it can be fixed but i now know
i have some issues in that corner with drainage/leak causing some rust.

day8 - so now here is the engine side of the harness with the circle cover that clips at the firewall coming out.

day8 - Fished this all the way out from rocker panel, past fuel module, down past where tank used to live, up and
around some shields back to the rear crash panel. Ready to fish out of the car.

day8 - and there she is. i hope this is all of the wiring that must be replaced for the swap. that the rest in the cab
plugs into the new engine's harness. getting to point where i will have to start ripping into the grey car for those
answers.

day8 - kinda bare in there now.

day8 - toss the mess back in the car and back outside. til next time. -R

I've been doing some reading and apparently I have to change all harnesses. is this true? if so I fear that my 05 sedan harness is not going to work in my 01 hatchback. help? way i read the info i've found with the clusters being different i might have to put in the 05 dash setup?!?!?

Here is why i am fretting

My Car:

2001 Zetec 5spd ZX3
Hatchback
Power Windows
Power Locks
No Sunroof
Non-ABS
Non Heated Seats and a Plain console (10yrs to find a good one in a yard)

Donor Car:
2005 D23 5spd ST
Sedan
Power Windows
Power Locks
No Sunroof (i think)
ABS
Heated Seats and that crappy smash-ur-elbow console (with u guessed it the seat heat buttons in it)

Beyond things like this potential dash issue b/c of wiring and clusters, motor position (loss of apparently 1.25in between back of engine and firewall...Though i wonder if this is the case with mine b/c i had to lengthened my zetec svt headers to clear jackshaft), and so many questions over the harness...going to manual windows over power. What things i can omit/delete and not throw a light. Ugh, sometimes i wonder if i prefer to make things harder on myself.

How easy does the dash come out?

Looks like about 7 bolts/screws. And removing the radio and things.

That's the one part I've never had out yet (along with the heater parts). I've had almost everything else apart in my cars.

I don't need most of the vent stuff or sound dampening back there. So I want it out come Summer.

looking good Ryan, see the car moving around your yard each week as I drive by.

The helmet has a special meaning for many drivers. How important is it to you? - It protects my head.

Do you have any special rituals when the helmet is concerned like many have? - I wipe it so that I can see better.

If you want to keep your 01' cluster you could try and source the pcm and harness's from either a 03' or 04' with a 2.3 and manual 5sp.

day9 - Destruction Time Again...

day9 - Commencing the day with more panel removal and her royal honeyness. I will prolly cut out those seat belt
brackets and lay a nice flush panelboard with color-matched felt over top. gonna chew on that one.

day9 - ...and naturally onto the other side.

day9 - This pile is sure growing. means more to stuff into the car at work's end.

day9 - Speakers next. Soon i will find out where the duratec's tank lines up with a fuel door job in mind.

day9 - Moving forward to the panel. Think going manual on the gear and gettin that motor and wiring gone.
Not sure. Also not sure on the panel. Could cover this too but taking the excess outta factory panel and back on
would likely be satisfactory.

day9 - Mirror control didn't survive some and slip/fall pushing it into the garage during a blizzard earlier on in the
project so i dismantled this for later. Manual mirrors almost certain.

day9 - Onto passenger side door. Never had this one apart as you can tell whereas the driver's had a window
clip failure (havent we all had that?).

day9 - Getting pretty naked in here. I wasn't thru however as i wanted more out up front as we get down into
the real nitty gritty of wiring removal finality.

day9 - I am grateful to whomever put in there thread about dash removal that this lil bugger was hiding in
there. Finger wrench was quite useful in here and no bother.

day9 - down with the column, I put it back up as i didn't get every last wire. i saw a brake switch with
broken clips so that was a plus.

day9 - Fortunately i do not have to remember how this lot went in. The grey car i will and thus detail
notes, pics, and wire numbers are likely.

day9 - Out with the dash crash bar. I'm going to take time with whichever bar i must use and give it
a quick rust converter paint job. Doesnt take long and car is better for it.

day9 - sound board coming out. Left center ventilation in for now as i didn't want to take my
front clip thats taped together apart to get in the hood and take it out. I might not be able to work
on it again Sunday and/or may be putting a carport for it instead. So there it will stay for now.
No AC for this car and i'm debating no heat. Cannot make up my mind but i know that i don't have
to right now.

day9 - she hasnt been this way since the summer of 2001 being born...

day9 - This was indeed a relief to see thus no mess dealing with headliner, rear light, lower bumper
etc wiring. That duratec harness will plug right into this. Thank you Semir for that heads up!!!

day9 - Never was an audio guy. Honestly if someone wants them for stock they can have them or
else trashola.

day9 - Well i wont leave with a pic of the car in present state as i might work on it tomorrow.
Instead how about some treats courtesy of BAT that came in the mail. Couple of these are becoming
scarce new nowadays. Til next time (perhaps as lil as 24hrs). -R

day10 - Now reaching a point where i need the car covered. Enter Portable garage finally. It was on sale and not much $.
If it last a yr than it more than paid for itself.

day10 - More Legs. day10 - Base frame was up in less than 10min.

day10 - Anchors aweigh...

day10 - Every person has things they are not good at...

...one of mine is ratchet straps.

day10 - Anchored up...

day10 - Thru it over to check fit.

day10 - A Doors' song was playing at the moment, but it wasn't 'Back Door Man'.

day10 - 3/4 home.

day10 - Front door anchoring.

day10 - Inside for 1st time.

day10 - Reverse look.

day10 - ...and she is in.

day10 - Packed full of items it ripped out yesterday for now.

day10 - Good weekend worth of work. Pretty close to point where this one will start giving up it's parts.

Til next weekend. Again not long before another car strip job and motor pull. -R
