Why use an st that looks in good shape as a donor?

it was a 75% value write off from copart. the engine bay is where my attention lies and naturally the attention goes to 'Luminosa' (Italian for 'very bright') b/c she is my baby owned since new.

I sure hope to be terrorizing the forum boards again 10yrs later with seemingly not possible time slips at local strips next year.

:D

These were waiting for me at the old house when i came home for the holidays...

But sadly after changing my oil in the VTurbo, i had to repair snake a window track assembly from the donor car to repair Grandma's. This way the duct tape can be removed.

Not exactly fun, but work will commence during the long wkend.

She better be greatful...

Day 1

Day-1 Engine Bay Before start. Pine Needles and all.

Day-1 Engine Bay nearing end of working day.

"Will I break yet another tool today?"

Day-1 The Ugly side

Day-1 What has been removed to this point

Day-1 How dad found me at one point. Thankfully he wouldn't have found any tears b/c of the coolant on the floor.

Day-1 End.

Notes from day.

-Looks like i will have to splice harness and not just eye for an eye. May have more reason in the future but for now i will b/c of the window washer tank switching sides from 01 to the 05 car. Inner fender on passenger side is not holed for the layup as it is in the 05. ugh.

-More tough and broken/dead bolts than expected. annoying.

-At least i can see there are some parts i can sell to some jetters out there who can use some of these goodies.

-Boy the power steering pump had a rough life.

-Stock motor mounts suck

-Surprised SVT header bolts for most part broke free. but last two studs will require some fresh 13mm 6pts. Sears tomorrow

-Anybody got tips for extracted busted bolts outta plastic?

-Does the Master Cylinder Level Sensor plug really unclip from the screw cap or not? Boy is that annoying to me.

Good night everybody...

Nice! Kind of wish I could do this. When I bought Ole' Yeller back in the day I found out that they put the 2.3l in the focus. Same thing happened when I bought my Ranger back in the day, found out the they put the 2.3l in that as well, it made more power, lighter, and got better gas mileage. Seemed like ford kept me from getting the 2.3 lol

Don't forget to sell those Iceman intake tubes and other useable parts, but I'm sure you already thinking of that as you said.

Great start. I'd pull the hood, motor/trans out of the '05 1st. Then check all the wiring & then the fuel tank. Just a thought later you could add the '05 front clip too.

Garage and space limitations were some of the reason i'm tackling it this way. Also if i was going to break anything or learn some new odds/ends on the way better to do so on the parts that are leaving. It is also cold here and it is hard to heat gun every clip and connector to keep it alive. Its going to take time w/o a full blown shop to work around b/c after the work is done i have to make it a roller again and put it back in the driveway. also trying to minimize time that the 05 looks like a wreck out in the driveway (panels gone, on blocks etc). That car runs so some of those questions are answered. No way in hell would i update the front end. the newer headlights were fugly IMHO.

Update: Engine and Trans are ready to meet the cherry picker. Might be a stretch but latest 2mrw AM the hoist chains will be checked one last time then motor mount bolts shall get busted...

Day-2

Started the day at Sears. Splurged a lil (yeh at xmas time). But it will pay dividends and is definitely worth a thumbs up...

...Thumbs up.

Pile is growing. Exhaust is out which was a big task and fought gamely.

Passenger Strut Assm, Brake, Spindle and Axle out...

Pile continues to grow.

Now the Driver side Axle and spindle now free. Not long now...

She has been good to me.

The ugly side, still ugly, but ready to move.

Quitting time. Ready for Chains

Tomorrow will be seeing the cherry picker in action. We will take a crack at taking the whole show out the bottom as one piece with help from a gantry and a lil 'country creativity'. It has been a productive weekend. I know there will be setbacks and headaches but still i'm pleased with the progress for what i have to work with. I took the time over dinner tonight to resist temptation of focaljet sponsor's holiday sales to set 2 goals. 1st is that i do not want to put $1 for even 1day on credit. 2nd, i want to trap @ 100MPH.

Tomorrow we will likely take her heart, but not her soul.

Stay tuned...
