Emailed focussport about rear stress bar

I have attached a copy of my email to focussport about their rear stress bar urging them to create a bar with contours to the focus hatch to save our cargo room, I hope you will join me in the effort to get a bar like this created.

Hey, I recently ordered a front upper strut bar from you guys. Its a very high quality product and I am very pleased with it. But I have a oppurtunity for you. I am one of the focus fanatics members (www.focusfanatics.com). And we have agreed that your rear stress bar would sell more if you created a bar with a contour to the rear hatch so we do not loose rear hatch space. And many of us have talked about this product and were wondering if you would be able to produce such a product? I am very interested in buying the rear stress bar for my 04 SVT but because it takes up cargo room I am dismayed from buying this product even though I have no doubt in its quality. I have heard from many members that this product provide excellent rear stability. But if you were to create a product with the proper contours for the hatch I would for certian be the first on the list to buy this product, and along with many other members of the forum. Thanks for listening to our input and I speak for everyone at focusfanatics when I say I am very appreciative in your service and quality you offer Focus drivers. Thank you again for the products you produce and hopefully will be doing business with you in the near future.

If you will join me and a few other members in pressuring focussport to create this bar I'm sure you will very happy with the product they come out with. I have no doubt in my mind that this would be an awesome product on the market for all of us...

I thought with the rear bar they have at the moment, it allows us to use 90% of the hatch? Seems like quite a bit of room to me, btw, i have the front too, and FS has great quality

unfortuneately, the design is based on the design of the car, and there are only so many places that they can mount the rear bar for it to be effective. and if you really need the trunk space, just take the bar out, it'll take you 2 minutes to remove, and about the same to put it back in when you're done. it's not a big deal

I have to agree with crazymechanic on this one. If you contour the bar, its structural integrity will be sacrificed. To fix this, you'll need to add more material for support (like gussets or a truss pattern), which will only add cost and weight while only possibly being just as good as the original.

I picked up both FS bars for $40, and they were a good investment. The front bar is all for show, but the rear bar helped. I have to say, it doesn't really make too much of a difference in cargo capacity. Afterall, the seats do fold down.

I have the rear. It doesn't take up that much space... It sits off the floor a bit, but is pushed back close to the seats.

how hard was the install? i want to purchase one also but it seems like quite a hard install because i saw a how-to on it, and it says that i would have to remove the rear wheel and remove the fender and all.. what would you rate the install out of 5 for someone that doesn't really have any mechanical skills?

I'd give it a 1 to a 1.5. The most time-consuming part is getting the bar lined up with the holes. Other than that, its cake.

I guess it depends on how many groceries are in that bag

The rear bar helps, but to be honest, its not something I can't live without. If I routinely carried large cargo in my hatch, I probably would have opted away from the bar. But, if you don't mind losing some space, its a worthy upgrade.

like I said, it takes a few minutes to take out and a few minutes to put back in. if you need to carry something big, take it out, and reinstall it when you're done
