UPDATE: My Audiophile unit shit the bed, so now I'm actively looking for an upgrade. Whatever I get has to be able to work with the stock subwoofer. Here are the three I've narrowed it down to:

JVC KW HDR81BT

I know Ataru (Jason Hodges) has one of these in Sonic, so I know it would work. I like the design.

Sony WX GT90BT

I'm iffy on this one, since I've never seen it before. But it's a possibility.

Kenwood DPX500BT

I've definitely seen this one, or a variant of it at least, used in a MK1.

The front runners are the JVC and the Kenwood, but I'm open to suggestions.

Holy damn, that's pretty serious. I'm looking to keep the stock stuff for the most part, just need to change the head unit for another double din.

Still need to ration money for new SVT seats and door cards, can't justify putting it towards a sound system that isn't broken.

That JVC has the best specs, and I know they make good stuff as far as head units go. Never knew anyone that said they hated it. Now you got me looking at it as well lol. I was looking at a cheaper model since around this price range you can get a head unit with a screen if you jump in price a little and keenwood has all sort of model around that range.

So I've heard as well, and I know it's a definite fit for the car. I figure if Jason likes it, it's probably a safe bet.

My Honda friend keeps bugging me to pony up and get a touch screen. But his Kenwood...or maybe Alpine. Can't remember...it sucks. It's too damn slow and the hit detection is iffy at best. Then again, I have that issue with even OEM stuff. I'd rather have physical buttons for a head unit.
