How-To: St-170 headlight wiring instructions

H318 Focus 2002 Euro Lamp Instructions

Fitting the Light to the car poses no problems. Simply remove existing lights and replace with new Euro Lights. All fastener locations are same as stock, reuse hardware to refit.

Electrical wiring requires some modification as the plugs are different, see wiring below. Note: we make reference to plug wire numbers (1-6) stamped on the side of plug. Connections should be made by cutting existing wires and either soldering with heat activated shrink tube, or using wire crimps (butt connectors) and proper crimp tool. In some cases where wire color codes differ, use a 12 volt test lamp to double check wires to be connected before making final connection.

Wiring the headlights:

Drivers Side (Left hand) Lamp
Wire Hole 1: High Beam wire / green & black stock wire
Wire Hole 2: Low Beam wire / green & orange stock wire
Wire Hole 3: Turn lamp Positive wire (Jumper to an existing turn signal lamp wire in grille or if using euro grill just connect the + positive wire to the harness/plug –cap off the ground.
Wire Hole 4: City Light, Jumper to an existing light source + positive that is a “running or marker” light / a lamp that is on without the main headlight. City light is there to dimly illuminate the headlamp lens while running lights are on at dusk, or while driving through towns or cities. In Europe there is more overhead lighting in urban areas so main lamps are turned off.
Wire Hole 6: Ground, Black stock wire.

Passenger Side (Right hand) Lamp:
Wire Hole 1: High Beam wire / green & orange stock wire.
Wire Hole 2: Low Beam wire / green & white stock wire.

Wiring Note: Wire hole 5 is NOT used. Only 1,2,3,4, & 6 are used for wiring these headlights for the North American Focus.

Lamp Alignment:
This part is mainly trial and error that is best done on a level surface with the car parked 10 feet or so from a wall. There are adjustor screws that can be turned to change the position of the lamp reflectors. Turn the lights on and adjust the low beam pattern so that the horizon (there will be light below but not above.) is 3ft high. On high beam, adjust so that the concentration of light is directed forward (parallel) and in line with the lamp.

Alignment Note: DO NOT ADJUST THE HEADLIGHTS TOO FAR. Or the piece inside WILL break. It’s a simple piece of plastic and can only move so far. I made this mistake once and it cost me another $200 for a spare headlight.
