No reverse

Okay guys well I just got my 2002 svt. It's all stock except for short ram air kit. I love the car. But I can't get it to go into reverse. I felt my buddies shifter and I've come to the same this conclusion. 1.where my reverse should be I can't get the shifter over farther, it just feels like there is a wall there. 2. Going into each gear it's as smooth as his. Like the gates into each gear are tougher to get past. 3. My 5th gear is very close to 3rd. And my 6th gear is very close to fourth. I've kinda been looking around I've heard many different stories on what it could be. I've heard the shifter base could be worn. Or the cables could be adjusted. I've read that the cables could get adjusted inserted hood by the transmission on with the little orange connector. Or the white clip and black clip on the two cables under the center console. At this point I'm not sure where to start. I think I'm going to order a shirt throw at te end of this week(what should I get?) this should solve the problem that potentially the shifter base is worn. Any ideas?

heres what I did for mine when I couldn't get it to do that I took the airbox and intake off I put the tranny in reverse by hand in th engine bay and (loosen the cable adjusters first) then went inside and put the shifter where its supposed to be in the car then I pushed the adjuster clips back in and then boom fixed unless your having a transmission problem..

Well i attempted to try doing that. I have the adjustment where you have to push the orange tab in until it locks down? I tried an pushed really hard but I never got it to lock down. I didn't feel like I should've had to push that hard because I didn't want to break it.

There is a little cube shaped bushing that fits in a slot in the trans end of the linkage, it fits over a rounded end, that is probably missing. You can make one out of nylon or delrin, or have one made, or buy one from Steve at Tasca Ford (on FJ).

Well I'm pretty new to focus's (I've had mine about 4 days) and I'm having a hard time fallowing what your talking about. At this point would it be a good idea to just replace every shift component? Cables, short throw, and all the lineages on the shifter?
