Thankyouall!!!!

Ok, I just finished the strut replacement.

It really wasn't hard, save for some reason getting the damaged strut out of the steering knuckle. The other one came right out. The strut didn't even look damaged...just old. Maybe the learning curve. 3 hour job. First strut took 2.

Anyway, just wanted to thank you all profusely for your help and advice, I really appreciate it!

A block of wood, a rubber mallet, and some rust penetrater worked wonders on mine when removing it from the knuckle.

You got it all done, I'm assuming the problem has been cleared up?

Well, here's a thing--now some weeks after the repair, the right side is fine, now it's the left side making a noise, kinda similar to the old noise from the right side. jeebus. it happens when the steering is turned all the way to the left, going slow or just starting up, also stationary to some degree. I opened the hood to have a look at the top of the strut mount while turning the wheel but didn't see anything odd. the sound from that point of view almost sounds like it's coming from the steering column, but I wouldn't know anything about that. going to go do a proper FF search now...

On mine one of the NEW sway bar end links loosened up a while after their installation, that's one thing to check since they were off to install the new struts.

I know you put on assembled struts, but checking the shock bolt in the center to make sure it's tight is another quick check.

Searching for noises again - PITA

Luck!

I still hear the occasional pop from the front springs going down the driveway at angle (has to be a sharp angle to avoid scraping now). I attribute this to not putting the rubber ends on the springs. No noise otherwise.
