Trunk does not spring open

I have a 2005 Focus ZX4 and was wondering if it just works this way or if it is a problem.

When I push the trunk release from the keychain or on the dash, it releases the trunk, but the trunk does not 'pop' open. It does not move at all. In fact, if I wait about 5 seconds, the trunk will lock again and I have to push the button again to unlock it. This is a little annoying. If I get to it within the first 5-10 seconds I can open it by applying moderate up pressure. Once the 'seal' has been broken it opens somewhat easily, but it takes a few pounds of pressure to get it started. Once it starts opening it is not spring loaded in any way like my previous tauruses were.

I'm looking to hear from fellow 05 owners to see if theirs behaves the same way as well as other model years to see how it works on those.

Thanks,
Mark

The same thing happens to me. I also have an '05 ZX4. Only on mine, the trunk locks again right away. I press the blue trunk release button on the keychain and I hear the latch click open, then click shut again! I have to hold down the button and lift up the trunk door from the bottom in order to open it. I would definitley say this is a defect. It's not supposed to work this way, otherwise how would you open it using the button on the dash?

Im going to have the dealer look at it when they install my spoiler that I ordered (I have an SE, should've got an SES, I guess).

It should be free to have it fixed, right? The car is still under warrenty.

Maybe this is a common problem with 05's?

Sounds like the same thing. Does anyone with an 05 have one that works different (one that works right)?

you asked!

actually it should just pop but not close again (although mine does sometimes due to the spoilers added weight).

OK, so from the input I've seen, the trunk should click open, but not spring open. It should not lock again if you don't get to it in a few seconds.

Same here...unlocks but stays shut. Doesn't "relock" that I'm aware of.

Hey Speedboy...

If you don't mind my asking, what are you playing for the spoiler? I didn't want the added cost of the SES but I would like the spoiler. Just curious.
