There is not enough information to determine what this really means.

It might keep some people from dumping their cars before the power train warranty expires and could help resale prices maybe.

Won't necessarily fix the headache of repeated trips to the dealer etc.

Better than a poke in the eye though.

It can also mean that Ford is confident that its latest TSB (14-0047) is finally addressing customer complaint issues. However, without further details, this is all speculation.

Time will tell...

It may be that Ford is finally confident they have a solution that will adequately work for most people. It does seem the latest hardware (rev D) and software is working pretty well so they may now feel they can right this off and move on.

I'm at 33K miles and have had few issues though I do get the occasional shudder. Between this warranty extension and the extended warranty I got at time of purchase, I'm not feeling too bad about this now.

Maybe - though it would be kinda crappy to have left customers twisting in the wind until they were sure it wouldn't cost them too much to stand behind the product.
