Polar vortex

I know everyone is sick of hearing about the cold...

Who had any car issues? My focus for the last few days upon cold start up will not idle down. Had to hit the gas pedal a bit to get it to come down.

Mine didn't want to start yesterday (-17 degrees, -38 with wind chill), and sounded ghastly when it finally started up. I let her warm up for a good 20 min before driving. It went down to normal idle (approx. 850 RPM) after that time.

Not a single issue here. It takes a while to get the cabin up to temp, but nothing unacceptable in the extreme cold we've had here in MO.

Check out this thread for more information as to why it's idling so high for so long.

Mine sits outside and on the -10 and lower days it squealed like crazy as it was warming up. One of those belt squeal type of noises. High idle of course while warming up. The squeal kind of pissed me off.

Why would you want the idle down? I may be wrong but I assumed that's done to keep the engine from shutting down

It's a higher than normal idle.

Normal is around ~850, and ours have been upwards of ~1200 in the extreme cold. It's causing some people (unnecessary) concern.

The leather was very cold...

Oh and the Cooper tires that came with my car get flat spots really easy with the cold. Car rode like $hit till the got some heat in them. Never had tires do that before.

I had ice on the INSIDE of all my windows today. Car doesn't leak anywhere and i have no containers of water inside which would evaporate. The majority was on the hatch. I was truly perplexed.

I think the higher idle makes sense. Carb based engines need to be treated the same way in cold.

Me too, every morning with these temps. I guessing it's from my body and breath moisture.
