Z plan pricing + incentives talked me out of the ST.
My wife has a 12 SE DCT sedan, boring.... I hate the tranny.
She has commented a couple times when I take off or pass, that she wished hers ran like that. Mine is a stock 5sp but seems like a whole different car than hers.
Granted, I had a 08 GTI, so I DO miss the REAL power, esp at low revs but it's still fun to drive.

Really appreciate this thread because I've been coveting the ST's ever since they came out even though I thoroughly love my Ti. This thread has settled my mind on keeping the Ti since I do love the mileage, comfort, and the handling as it is. May put an intake on it in the near future and be satisfied with what I have for many years to come.

But I'll still cut an envious eye towards those slick ST's when they pass...they do look good!

I am of the same consensus. My Ti gives me the best of both worlds, at least in my current situation. My daily commute involves just enough heavy stop-and-go traffic to make driving a manual sound like a chore, but the sport package suspension really makes things fun when I get the opportunity to push it. I'm still envious of the ST, but maybe next time. I will be definitely be opting for the sportier version of whatever I decide for my next car (hopefully this is years from now).

I just talked to my salesman. He has a ST1 on the lot with a sunroof in white. I made an appointment with him for Saturday morning to go test drive it. I told him he has an uphill battle to fight to talk me into the ST. On paper there is a distinct financial disadvantage to dumping my 16mo old '12 for the '14 ST. His response was that he was confident he could "get me swapped" for little to no additional cash out of pocket. We shall see I suppose.

Does anyone know if the ST1 package has the auto up/down on all windows, or just the drivers like my SE?!?

ST1 Pros for me....
- No Recarros (I'm a bigger guy at 6'2" - 230lbs, and they are tight)
- No MFT (I've had two rentals with it, and both were buggy at best, SYNC only please)
- Significantly lower price tag than ST3

ST1 Cons for me...
- No HID's
- Possibly no auto up/down on ALL windows (Can anyone verify)
- No heated seats
- Rear cargo area is significantly smaller than my SE due to larger spare
- No Subwoofer without MFT :(

Ultimately if the finances don't work out EXACTLY how I want, I'll be walking away. My SE is plenty of fun as it is, and with a few mods I think will be enjoyable for years. I do however think I will always second guess myself if I don't drive one.

Much thanks to everyone for the feedback so far. It's interesting to see both sides of the coin.

Is your concern primarily the cash out of your pocket?

For example, if he gave you $10K for your car and sold you the ST for $25K, would that be acceptable as long as you didn't have to come up with any cash?

Not Exactly.

No Cash out of pocket at time of purchase would be nice, but not the primary factor.

I'm looking at total cost of purchase. So I need to be close on the total of payments, and cash out of pocket, when compared to what I'm already signed up for. Purchase price, loan rate, loan term, down payment all play into that number, as I'm sure you know.

Ultimately if we can keep me in a similar payment and term to what I have remaining on my current car, with a modest down payment then I would be acceptable with that.

Yeah I got that concept awhile ago. I'm ALWAYS in 5th gear above 35mph.. still can't get about 19mpg :\

I ended up not going on Saturday morning (called and cancelled late Friday night). The wife wants a new car more than I do I think, so we've changed modes completely.

Crossovers are now on the shopping list, and hatchbacks are off. Thanks for the input from everyone involved though!
