Rims for the ST

Hey guys,

I'm back into the Focus world with the purchase of my 13 Focus ST 202a. It's getting close to winter in Indiana and I am starting to think of winter wheel tire options. Looking to see what everyone else has done with the st..

Have you guys run 18s or are stepping down to 17s or even 16s.

What rims are you guys running?

Side note. My cousin has a set of mustang cobra rims 1R33-1007-FA, 17" with Blizzacs (245/45/17)s that I could get a good deal on. Anyone tried bolting these up before I try it next weekend?

Pics of course are always appreciated!

Cheers

Well it's of matter of what you want on your st, also I'm going with my stock 18s and all season tires it doesn't snow very much here and I'm a very careful driver.. I use to do deliveries in a massive truck that's rear wheel and no chains so I'm very comfortable driving something small and decent on slick Iced roads.. but if you end up going smaller rims or different ones, you have to remember the price which was quoted around 1,300 us dollars... at my local tire shop for my st. It's something your have to really think do I want to spend the cash to get new tires and on top of that rims..

Mustang wheels won't work, they are 5x114.3 where your car is 5x108.

For my 2012 Focus Titanium w/handling package, two years ago I purchased silver 16x7 Sport Edition F7 wheels from Tire Rack and Hankook I*Cept 215/55-16 winter tires from a local dealer. Total was about $900 including tax, mounting, and balanced. The last two winters were pretty mild, but the tires seemed to grip well and were quiet for winter tires except on certain concrete surfaces. I have one autocross event remaining, so I have not put them on my ST yet.

I went with a set of used ST wheels because I like the OEM wheels. Plus I figured it couldn't hurt to have extra oem wheels in case I hit a bad pothole or something and ruin a wheel. I bought some used Michelin Alpine PA3's locally that didn't even really get used last winter. So I have $1k invested in wheels and tires. I also wanted to stick with the "18 wheel to keep the cars performance when the roads are good in the winter.

I was lucky to make my purchase during the Ford 120 hour sales event about two weeks ago.
Along with the first 3 months cash back, I also received a winter tire and wheel package.
I thought I would receive steelies and winter tires, but was surprised to get the 17" Black painted machined aluminum wheels for the SE Plus Black package and Yokohama W-Drive tires!
What a wonderful surprise Ford Canada and Ocean Park Ford!!!

Anyone know if we can use a set of 15" steel wheels from a stock 12+ focus? I can land a set from a buddy for like 100 to roll for three months, as long as we don't have clearance issues with the 15" rim.

Just saw a Focus ST take a digger over a curb and into a ditch this morning as he was still on the OEM spec rubber. I personally wouldn't own an ST as a primary driver since our winters are just so hard on low cars with no fender clearance between the tires with hard ice crammed in there. Too nice a car to subjugate to winter IMO. Heck I'm fortunate enough that the SE rarely sees snow.

I would agree with you for living in Colorado. But winters here in Indiana are pretty mild for the most part. We only get snow intermittently for 2-3 months at the most, and very rarely is it more than 4-6". But I wouldn't want to tackle that snow with the OEM spec rubber, hense why I am looking for a winter option. It's just hard to justify spending $800-$1200 on a set if wheels and tires that will only see the road for 3-4 months of the year.
