Updated Sound Systems?

Hey all,

I currently own a 2002 Focus SE Wagon.

1x Kenwood kdc-200u aftermarket headunit
2x Alpine SPR68 E 6x8 speakers in the front.
2x Stock focus speakers.

I'm in need of adding sound to my car. And I need help. Amps? Subs? Speakers? Sound electronics in the car are just super confusing for me.

Thanks!

What is your budget?

What music do you listen to?

You looking for sound quality? Or you wanting loud?

Let's not start with a budget. I'm a 20 year old college kid with an okay job. So it would be a gradual upgrading.

I listen to all types of music; ranging from rock to rap to dubstep. Just depends on the mood of the day.

My two alpines are making everything sound and feel good but it's nothing compared to my girlfriend's set up with a 10" pioneer sub, two pioneer tweeters and some speakers. I haven't looked that far into her set up.

I'm looking for quality over loudness. But still bass-y when wanted.

Moved this to our Audio Section.

I would not worry about the rear speakers as you don't sit back there. Focus on you front sound stage. Adding even a small sub will help out greatly. 6x8's are not that great when it comes to pushing bass notes. I recently bought an infinity basslink powered sub from crutchfield for $200 but have yet to install it due to time. It is a small sub and should be enough to fill the lows but won't thump the doors off everything either.

Budget really does have a big impact on what you want to do, but the cheapest option I can find is:

Alpine 4ch Amp
10" Alpine Sub (or an equivalent 12")
Wiring Kit

You would also need to buy an appropriate box to fit the sub.

Basically, the amp would run in 3-channel mode. You would power your front-door speakers with the front two channels, then the rear two channels would be bridged to the sub.

This is probably the cheapest solution to get the most out of your speakers, as well as add some quality bass to the mix.

The other benefit is that this equipment can grow with your setup as well. If you eventually want to make your sound system even more powerful, you can grab another set of speakers, and have all 4 speakers powered off of this amp. Grab another single or dual-channel amp to power your sub(s), and you are good to go.

This setup isn't going to break any records for volume, but it will sound good, and will have plenty of thump for the average driver.

That headunit only has 1 set of outputs for subwoofer.

So not 4 channel.

The start of a good stereo is getting a good headunit.

The Pioneer 80prs is the best you can get without spending $1000 on the p99rs in terms of sound quality.

Craigslist can be of great help when one is on a tight budget FWIW

But, make sure it works before you buy it.

Unless you want the security of a warranty that is.

All right dudes

I drive around with my friends and family a lot, so the back two speakers are a requirement in my eyes.

I found a deal of:
"2 ALPINE SUBS 12 S
BOSS AMP 2000 WATTS
SEALED BOX
AMP WIRING KIT 4 GA"

for 229

I think that will do for subs...

Now the speakers, I need an amp right? What kind? Brand? Price?

many amps have speaker-level inputs these days. I believe the one I linked does.

I would avoid the BOSS amp, not the best of quality.
