Muffler delete

Something is broken and rattling inside my muffler and I was wondering how it would sound if I cut it out and replaced with a straight pipe while still keeping the resonator... Has anyone tried this and how does it sound or would it sound better to just cut it all off and just run the pipe?

Short answer: It would sound horrible.

Long answer: It would sound horrible, but you need to get it repaired before it causes further damage. I would definitely recommend picking up a new muffler, either buy a new high-flow performance muffler or pick up a replacement from a junkyard.

I took out the lunch box as well as something that's under the rear seat area idk if that was the muffler, the shop did it. But I had them weld in a Flowmaster 40 series and it sounds g sweet

There are two muffler like devices under our cars. Some call them mufflers, some call them resonators. One is under the rear seat the other near the rear bumper. My particular car comes stock without the one near the rear bumper and it sounds great and not loud at all. Every car used a muffler (resonator) under the rear seat. Some models can fit the above mentioned flowmaster, others can only fit the 6" round style.

Removing both units would be loud and obnoxious but if you like that sort of thing, try it. It would be cheap and since you're due for a system anyway you're not out much for the test.

Removing only the rear unit is not bad at all and is elsewhere referred to as the lunchbox delete.

If only the one under the seat is toast, slap in a straight pipe or some flex pipe and see how it works. I don't recall anyone here going that route. If you do, please report back!
