The end is near...

After sitting for 2 years in my garage with a broken motor, I'm reinstalling the stock D23 in the racecar this weekend.

Another announcement is soon to follow...

well, even with the stock motor, the car will probably still be fun to drive...do you have any bolt ons to swap over?

your announcement better not be you are parting with the car! keep it as a fun daily

LOL. way too radical for street use. No interior no heat, not one shred of rubber in the entire front end. It's a great track car but pretty useless on the street here in the north east.

First glimpse of the shredded race engine. A busted piston and cossie rod. Billet crank has some chew marks on it, need to have my machine shop give me a repair estimate, to see if its worth saving to be resold. If I can spend 500 to sell for $2k OBO it might be worth it. I think the other 3 rods and pistons are 100%, so there might be a few bucks that I can get for those bits. I'm waiting to see what the head looks like, maybe I got lucky there IDK yet.....

Flat out on the back straight at Watkins Glen, just after I came out of the esses . Probably doing about 110-115 at 7500 rpm, I'm not really sure...

Looking at the blackness on the crankshaft it looks like a classic oil starvation situation. Duratecs don't like long right handers, such as the carousel at the glen...

Enging wasnt made for 8000+ rpm even on straights , you need a dry sump for that and ..... well you know where I am going next

That could be true but since it only let loose on my third outing at the track where we were running the short course at WGI, and you stay in the carousel for almost an eternity.. ( pulling over 1g in a 80mph right hand turn) I really think the biggest problem is getting oil back to the sump from the cylinder head. Sure, I had a bath hole in the oil pan which kept most of the oil by the sump, but as well as being pumped to the head there was no way to get it back down from the right hand side of the cylinder head. Obviously a dry sump would have eliminated that problem, but I'm not convinced that is the only solution. Unfortunately I don't think I'm going to have a chance to prove that theory...
