"No allocations this week nationwide"?

Hey all,

Just had a quick question. My salesman has been keeping me updated and last week we drew up an order for a '14 Focus SE sport. This week he contacted me and told me his boss told him that, nationwide, no order was pulled? Is that 'normal' or just the result of some sort of holdup? Anyone have any idea of how long of a delay that might be?

He says he's seen it happen a few times before; he theorized that the factory is just backed up so they didn't pull any orders so as to not overfill the banks. He also said that sometimes dealers, and even individual customers, will cancel their orders right away when that happens lessening their load.

I won't be canceling mine; but I am curious as to when I can expect it!

Orders pulled your dealer just doesn't have allocation probably to order one. We're seeing holiday scheduling breaks already so it may be December before you get it

Well, when you say "My dealer", but they said this was a 'nationwide, no orders pulled' deal. What's up with that?

Sounds like a dealer trying to save face. Unless it's Christmas or thanksgiving there isn't a reason for Ford to not schedule any builds for the entire US.

They make 400,000 a year and aren't open year round. Missing an entire week of building costs them money.

Could be. Although they didn't make it sound like they weren't building any cars for the week, they made it sound like they weren't pulling any ORDERS for the week (aka were backed up). All he told me was, they didn't pull any of their orders, and that it was 'nationwide', in their words. Though, of course, salesman are good at saying whatever they need to say sometimes :). That's why I asked, to find out if that was, in fact, true.

If it matters, this is coming from Michigan Assembly (where I assume all domestically sold Focuses come from right?)

All made in Michigan yes. If all orders are fulfilled or backed up as he stated then it gets pushed back 1 week. I have an explorer that is scheduled more than a month out due to demand. I still have a VIN but it won't be built for a while.

Getting antsy. Today marks 4 weeks exactly without a build date or a VIN. Nothing at all. Is that pretty typical? Seems a lot longer than what I've read. Nearly 30 days from placing the order and I don't even have a build date yet.

The build date is actually a fairly late step in the process. It's not a guess as to when they might build the car. It's the projection for when it will be completed, given that they already have accumulated all the parts and scheduled the line in the factory. It's not a committment, but the dates are pretty accurate, which suggests Ford doesn't assign the date until they've cleared all the obstacles that make most project dates hopeful projections.

Do you have a VIN? Can you look up the window sticker? If so, the sticker has the build date on it.

Just got the VIN on Saturday. Still no build day via ETIS and no Monroney (Window Sticker) yet. Unless you know of a different place to look up window stickers than "Research Maniacs" which is the only place I can find.

This is not the case, the build date to the week or day is initially scheduled at the moment the order is picked up by Ford for scheduling and a VIN is pulled.

The car isn't scheduled until the dealer has sufficient allocation to be able to order the specific vehicle however.

If the dealer has an allocation for that particular vehicle and enters the order by Wednesday of the first week it would get picked up in the AM preview scheduling report and would be scheduled on Thursday that week. Once it's scheduled to the week it may change the specific date a few times within that week until it's actually built, but once initially scheduled the VIN is generated. ETIS and the window sticker are not updated until much closer to the actual build date however.

The window sticker shows up around 1 week before the car is to be built and ETIS doesn't populate until a day or more after the car is built.
