03 wagon back hatch info needed

Wagon experts,
I bought a used wagon and the rear dome light wouldn't shut off when the hatch was closed with the button in the middle position on the dome light. I found out the hatch was replaced due to an accident. There was a two prong plug dangling behind the plastic cover when I removed it for inspection. I ended up buying a switch that shuts the dome light off after the hatch is closed. I can plug the switch into the plug ....... however, where do I mount the switch? Does it just hang there or does it snap in somewhere? Someone with a wagon can pop off their cover locate the switch and see where and how its mounted? Thanks in advance.

Mike

Thanks,
This has me stumped. I know it should snap in a certain way but I have no reference point because the switch was miising.

Is there a Ford mechanic in the house that has worked on one of these switch installs? Maybe someone can look inside there tailgate to see how this switch is mounted....... anybody?

I'm surprised no one has chimed in. I don't have a wagon so I have no Idea. I wonder if the hole/mount got covered with paint somehow and it is not making it visible

I got one and I know I won't yank cover because you always risk breaking mounting tabs doing it, they break easily, Anyone else knowing this will not be yanking that cover as well. I had to rig to get mine to stay on with broken snap locators. Not anxious to break more.

Sorry, jack, but not gonna tear it up till forced to.

I have had my cover off at least a half dozen times without breaking the tabs off trying to figure this out. Let me amend my request to anyone not afraid to remove their cover to take a look at the switch.

I have a wagon and I will look this weekend. I'll let you know. The trick to not breaking the tabs is gentle constant pressure no jerking.

Thankyou Reject,
I look forward to hearing from you. I would like to get this resolved and move on to the next task on my list to get my wagon to 100%.

I looked under there & I don't see a switch. The wires that come off of my rear dome light run towards the front of the car. It has 2 plugs 1 has 1 wire & the other has 2 wires they both seem to run above the headliner going to the front (I only pulled headliner down enough to see that it goes forward) If you could be more specific about where the switch is I'll try to help you out.
