Yeah, but vw seems to have theirs dialed in now. Keeping the dry clutch dry seems problematic and the heat is not the trannys friend either.

Bullcrap. I live in Fort Lauderdale Florida and I have no problems with my DCT. You can't get any hotter than down here.

Personally, I think Ford's DCT is one of the best in small-cars right now. The number of people who have actual defects in their transmissions is such a small number. Everyone else who complains is just whining because it's different. I've driven a number of mk3s and while it certainly feels different to drive, it doesn't feel wrong or broken. I see mk3 DCTs all the time at stop lights and in slow moving traffic and I have yet to see one bucking and chugging along.

It's like when Facebook updates the layout and everyone cries about it and a week later they've all forgotten why they were upset.

Or when Apple updated to iOS 7 and the world cried foul because they're not used to the new and different layout.

The DCT is new and different. Eventually you'll adjust and wonder why you ever drove a traditional automatic in the first place.

If the different DCT is just simply too much for you to handle, there's a perfectly viable option readily available to you across all models of Focus called a 5spd manual. Works like a charm. The only time it bucks and grinds is if you're completely incompetent behind the wheel.
