Thanks for sharing. I could not tell if they use dry-clutch or wet-clutch design.

Code name D6GF1, 6 speed, manufactured by WIA (?) based on parts supplied by LuK.

Heard all DCT's are based on LuK's parts, could not verify it independently, though.

It's annoying that people on here think it's a problem with Ford. DCT is a pretty new technology in cars like these, there WILL be problems. Maybe it's because I'm coming from a GTI, but the transmission on these is like a god send.

The Veloster is using a dry dual clutch design similar but not identical to the one used in the Ford Focus in North America, as well as on the 1.6 L n/a petrol in the Fiesta and Focus in Europe.

In europe the diesels mostly use the DCT450 wet dual clutch transmission.

The D6GF1 is a dry dual clutch transmission. It only has an oil capacity of 1.9 L the DCT250 has a capacity of 1.7 liters, that's just the oil to coat the gears in the transmission, and not provide an oil bath for the clutch plates like in a wet clutch set up.

Thanks for the info on the DCT used by Hyundai.

I have the DCT450 with the TDCi (bought in Taiwan).

So far there is no real problem (no grinding noises) with about 1000 miles (3+ months of ownership). But there are some hesitations during shifts and drivability issues -- I could not ascertain if they are turbo-lag related or transmission related.

The frequent up/down shifts (I'd say I could shift a little smoother when I drive a stick shift, and I'd shift much less frequently too), however, are totally transmission related. These can be managed, though, once I get used to it (at least I believe so).

Wife is the primary driver of the focus. I only advised her to use "S" mode more often so far.

Aren't the DCTs now wet due to seal leakage and contamination.

Mazda transmissions have nothing in common with Ford's DCT, at least in North America. While Volvo uses a Getrag DCT, it is 6DCT450, not the 6DCT250 used in the Focus. The 6DCT450 uses a wet clutch instead of the 250's dry and again are completely different animals.

Hmmm . . let's see:

Ford designed the car
Ford selected the transmission
Ford assembled the car
Ford put their name on it
I bought it at a Ford dealer
Ford wrote the warranty
I gave my money to Ford
I took it to be serviced by a Ford certified technician

Who would you suggest we be upset with . . . the Easter Bunny maybe?
