02 focus front wipers

hey, so i get in the car today, turn the wipers on cause its raining...they make one sweep and stop working...cycling the wiper switch i can hear the relay clicking. so i drive to work and park the car for a few hours, get in and try them again, they move half way through the sweep and stop vertical on the windshield. again i can hear the relay clicking so im thinking its not a problem with the switch, the linkage is intact as well so that's not the issue, im thinking the motor is toast again...any thoughts? thanks in advance!!

Usually when they don't 'park' back at the bottom, it's a bad relay. Does the intermittent function work? If not, that's the culprit.

It's at the top of the driver's fuse panel, conveniently hidden behind a metal support. The relay is a grey rectangular one with 3 vertical blades along the top and 2 horizontal ones beneath...part number in Standard is RY612 and will run you about $20.

When mine failed, I could hear the click when the intermittent function was on, but it wouldn't work.

no setting on the wiper switch is working now...the wipers wont move at all. i can hear the relay click when switching from intermittent to reg to fast, so there is power getting to the relay

Just got a 2003 focus for my daughter to add to the focus family. the wipers do not return to the starting location when you turn them off. Is this the relay?

Yup - most likely.

It was for myself when they would stop whenever turned off instead of "parking" like they should. Long needle nose pliers was my "trick" to get the relay out without a lot of disassembly (it's WAY back in there).

http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/s...ht=Wiper+Relay

I used this thread for info., managed to skip the disassembly portion with the long pliers...

Needed the part # info to order the relay, parts lookup at the dealer was by number not by function so they didn't know which was needed!

It's actually listed as "General Purpose Relay". You just have to make sure the blade arrangement is the same.

I scrapped off a Mazda truck this fall, and noticed it was full of just those relays (even stamped "Ford"), so now I have a handful of them...which means I'll never need one ever again!

thanks for the info. I will get the relay and see what happens. going to replace the cigarette lighter fuse while m in there as that also does not work. That is high on her priority list so she can charge her phone.
