Why would you run less tread instead of the factory 205? BTW if you are forced to stick with 15's, I have a set of factory cast 15's I can sell, although I'd think you'd want something more along the lines of a Centerline forged wheel that would help some if the class allows aftermarket wheels.

I wasn't aware of the inertia switch. It sounds like it doesn't belong on a race car that can get bumped around (damn those rookie drivers!!!) I'd hate to see the car shutting off if I got hit in the bumpers or whatever. Can you tell me how sensitive this switch is ? How long until it resets and the car can be started again ?

I raced a Celica at our paved 3/8ths oval, though I've driven 2 Foci and still have thoughts of turning one into a racecar. Would love to hear how yours works!

Definitely get rid of the inertia switch or you'll be stuck when you get hit. You don't want to have to wait for the caution and unbuckle just to push the switch so you can get going again. It doesn't take much of a smack to set it off. It resets immediately once you push it, but it's in the passenger side footwell.

That said, you should have an electrical kill switch on the dash as well, to cut the power in case of a bad crash. If you're strapped into a car that's spewing fuel and you have to wait for someone to come shut off the pump, that's going to be a problem. Yes, you should be able to get out in ten seconds or less...but your car might be a Hibachi by then.

The only way I got more camber was to cut the strut towers and reweld the mounts at an angle. Then you might have to find longer tie rods to make up for the extra width. You can get camber plates if the rules allow (ours don't). But it does allow cut mounts if you convince them it was a repair ;). Our max camber is 7 degrees, btw.

Are you running at Sunset? Up here at Capital City the 4-cylinder guys all run Falken Azenis because they have a 200 treadwear rating and 60 profile, the minimum we can use. Problem is, those specs only come in a 195/60R14. My Celica needed different gearing to run well on 14s, but you might get lucky and find the stock Focus tranny pulls well in third with those.

Thanks for the input. I run at Peterborough Speedway. I've been running a Mazda 323 for the past 3 years and finished 3rd, 3rd and 5th in the points each year. I'm switching to the Focus because I want more power to compete for the championship. I will bypass the inertia switch for sure. I do have a main power switch already but the rules also require a separate fuel pump shut off switch too. As for the camber, we are allowed 4 degrees max and are not supposed to modify the suspension. I run the Falken Ziex tires as we have to have a minimum 400 tread wear.

Treadwear rating is used by tire manufacturers to specify how grippy a tire is. The lower the number, the more grip. Conversely, the higher the number, the longer the tread life you should get.

Ingots are bars of silver...ran out of synonyms for grey, I guess. Apparently there aren't 50 shades after all.

We're not supposed to modify ours, either...hence the "repair" excuse. You could try it on the right front first and see what they say.

Are you coming to Autumn Colours?
