losing oil

hey guys my 2013 ti is either burning off oil or the thing has a leak (which will go straight to the dealer to be fixed), is anyone else having any kind of oil loss trouble? mine only has about 1900 miles on it, so im not sure if from the factory they use a lower weight or something of the sort. any input would be most appreciated!

Oil consumption is not very common. Get your dealer to document any oil loss you have. That's the only way they will do any thing for you.

one odd feature of the Mk3 engine is the perceived oil level is very dependent on the car being level or not.
So if you check the oil.. do so in the same spot.. (So the car is exactly the same angle etc..)

This is a factor, but you also have to wait close to 15 minutes before the oil drains out of the VCT camshaft phasers and the upper end of the block in sufficient quantity to give a true reading of the oil level.

Well I know the feeling and its not fun...

My dealership fixed me up pretty quick (even did the oil change under warranty too, as the bolt breaking was not my fault). Good luck though man.

looks like a powertool trying to take it 'off' but set to tighten instead.. Rip it right apart.

i've accepted that my mk3 is 1-1.5 quarts low at each oil change. i usually do a 5K oil change with 0w20. it used to smoke every cold morning. gradually went away. im also losing oil from the from timing cover might want to take a look there

I have never noticed any major loss in oil in my mk3 but from everything I have ever seen and learned every car burns some amount of oil between oil changes. My buddies 08 civic burns like a quart of oil between every oil change and the car is in almost perfect condition. Unless your losing a couple quarts or something ridiculous then I would say you have a leak somewhere. Let us know what you find!

i did burn oil up to about 2100 miles. that was on the factory fill and filter. 2 oil changes later i still have minute consumption. nothing serious but keep your eye on it.

0-20 is not the recommended weight oil 5W-20 is . That might help. I had oil consumption issues till I changed from Motorcraft semi to Penzoil Ultra.
